Mission and Program Overview

Mission

First Hunt Foundations primary purpose is to keep the Hunting Heritage alive in America. This is done by mentoring new hunters, recruiting mentors to help new hunters and building a sustainable organization to keep the process going. FHF primarily works with youth wanting to learn hunting skills, but also works with some adults.

Program Services

DescriptionGrantsExpenses
FHF seeks to recruit mentors that in turn will train and take meetees hunting. Recruiting mentors is FHF's main focus in our growth period as there is a direct relationship between the number of new hunters trained and the number of available, active mentors. In 2018 FHF had signed up 105 more mentors and expanded to operate in 17 states. Likewise, FHF recruited mentors at 7 major outdoor shows. FHF implemented a simulated hunting range at these shows and had 3,800 youth go through the range.$35,800$32,253
FHF seeks to find mentees of all ages that desire to learn about hunting. In 2018 FHF acomplished 2,631 mentor days. This was done by helping 1,474 youth and 616 adults (over 18). Of those numbers, 730 were girls or women. There were 1,387 days of actual hunting and 1,244 days of training for a hunting skill.$14,350$13,460
FHF desires to become the largest mentoring organization in the U.S. for training new hunters. FHF is striving to do the best business management practices to be sustainable in the future. FHF is working to recruit state, regional and national leaders who can volunteer their time in organizing the growing the organization. Forming local chapters is a priority of FHF leadership. There is more stability if a group of individuals form a cohesive structure to work within. FHF has started communicating with all it's mentors through a Constant Contact news letter in 2018. FHF attended the first R-3 national conference in Lincoln, Nebraska to show our commitment to Recruiting new hunters, Retaining the current hunters and Reengaging hunters who have left the sport.$14,350$13,113

Cash grant to Teller Wildlife Refuge for $250. Donation of pink .22 Cricket to Idaho Fish and Game Expo

Form 990-EZ, Part I, Line 16

Expenses to implement the mission of First Hunt Foundation. Covers the three areas of Mentoring, Recruiting Mentors and Building an organization. FHF has no paid staff and is operated by a cadre of volunteer leaders and mentors. Major expenses are directed for finding and recruiting more volunteers who in turn donate their time to deliver the mission of FHF. Attending large outdoor shows involves booth fees and travel expenses for volunteers who staff the booth for 4-3-5 days at a time. Funds are also used to get some equipment for the mentoring operation that occurs in 24 states. FHF gives hats and certificates to mentees to celebrate and remember their new hunting experience. Safety equipment and hunting supplies are often provided as most mentees have no personal equipment of their own. Mentors also get hats and often shirts to promote professionalism and field identity of FHF volunteers. Funds are used to sustain FHF as well. Funds for meetings, national meetings, office supplies, travel, etc. are some categories where funds are used to build the FHF organization.
