“The GateWay Boarding Academy will be a statewide, college preparatory boarding school for adolescent males who have been identified by juvenile justice, foster care and other community agencies. Our mission is to provide these young men with a second chance to achieve an education that prepares them for success in college and beyond, and life skills necessary for successful and productive living.”

“To increase enrollment, the Academy continues to leverage connections with faith-based organizations and public school personnel, and has virtually expanded its service area to include the entire Eastern Standard and Central time-zones. The virtual after-school program is called the A.S.S.I.S.T. Program, [After-School, Systematic, Instructional, Support, Time]. In addition, the effectiveness of its researched-based curriculum, which gives academically struggling adolescent boys a second chance to acquire academic and functional life-skills they must have to become productive members of the community, was enhanced by including two levels in both Math and Reading to accommodate enrollees with greater academic skill deficiencies. Additionally, staff was expanded to include those with Special Education certification. All staff and volunteers received a rigorous, subject-specific, eight hour training to prepare them to serve up to 32 students in group instructional sizes of no more than four. The Foundation continues to provide youth protection training, screen all staff and volunteers as well as to vet adult volunteers to serve as life-skills models and teacher assistants in the A.S.S.I.S.T. Program. Lastly, the Foundation launched its first Pre-Apprentice program entitled the "Earn & Learn" Program, which provides four weeks of summer Youth employment & training in one of three vocational areas: Furniture Design, HVAC, and Electrician. This program also requires students to take a math class with curriculum designed to teach the mathematics used in each of the three vocational areas. The students are simultaneously provided support in the adoption of the life skills of problem solving, accountability, integrity, respect, and endurance. The volunteer trainers are all adult business owners from the community that are certified in their respective vocations.”
