IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0REFERRAL AND ADVOCACY: THE PURPOSE OF THE ADVOCACY AND REFERRAL PROGRAM IS TO ENSURE THE FAMILY HAS THE NECESSARY SUPPORT AND RESOURCES TO DEAL WITH THE RECENT ABUSE OF THEIR CHILD. EACH FAMILY IS ASSIGNED A REFERRAL SPECIALIST WHO PROVIDES A PLAN FOR SERVICES AFTER THE INVESTIGATION. THE PLAN MAY INCLUDE COUNSELING REFERRALS, LEGAL REFERRALS OR EDUCATION. IN ADDITION, THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES CASE COORDINATION FOR THE CHILD ABUSE INVESTIGATION TEAM. THIS SERVICE ALLOWS FOR THE ORGANIZATION TO ENSURE THAT COMMUNICATION IS SHARED ACROSS DISCIPLINES AND THE FOCUS OF THE COORDINATION IS TO IMPROVE THE PROCESS OF INVESTIGATIONS. IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc0OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES INCLUDE:FORENSIC INTERVIEWS: WHEN REQUESTED BY LAW ENFORCEMENT OR CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES, PROJECT HARMONY PROVIDES EACH CHILD A PROFESSIONALLY TRAINED FORENSIC INTERVIEWER TO ASSIST IN GATHERING INFORMATION REGARDING AN ALLEGATION OF ABUSE OR NEGLECT. A CHILD INTERVIEW SPECIALIST WILL CONDUCT A VIDEO-TAPED FORENSIC INTERVIEW WITH THE CHILD. ONE OF THE GOALS OF THIS INTERVIEW IS TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF TIMES THE CHILD MUST TELL THE STORY OF HIS/HER ABUSE. REDUCING THE NUMBER OF INTERVIEWS REDUCES THE TRAUMA OF THE CHILD. IN 2014, THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED 938 FORENSIC INTERVIEWS.TRAINING AND EDUCATION: IN 2014, THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED TRAINING TO 2,503 PROFESSIONALS IN THE METRO AREA. THE PURPOSE OF THIS EFFORT IS: - TO CENTRALIZE AND PROVIDE ONGOING TRAINING TO MANDATORY REPORTING PROFESSIONALS ON THE DETECTION OF ABUSE AND THEIR OBLIGATIONS TO REPORT. - TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF CHILD ABUSE INVESTIGATIONS. - TO IMPROVE THE COMPETENCY OF PROFESSIONALS TREATING CHILD ABUSE. - TO IMPROVE THE COMPETENCY OF THE PROSECUTION OF EGREGIOUS CHILD ABUSE. - TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF RESEARCH IN THE PREVENTION AND RESPONSE TO CHILD ABUSE. - TO ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY IN THE CAMPAIGN AGAINST CHILD ABUSE. - TO PROVIDE EDUCATION, COMMUNITY AWARENESS, AND ENLIST A UNIFIED VOICE TO IMPACT CHILD ABUSE.STATE CHAPTER: THE NEBRASKA ALLIANCE OF CHILD ADVOCACY CENTERS (A.K.A. THE STATE CHAPTER) WAS ESTABLISHED IN 2000 TO ENSURE THE COORDINATION OF THE CHILD ADVOCACY CENTERS ACROSS THE STATE OF NEBRASKA. THE NEBRASKA ALLIANCE IS ACCREDITED BY THE NATIONAL CHILDREN'S ALLIANCE AND PROJECT HARMONY SERVES AS THE FISCAL AGENT FOR THIS ASSOCIATION. FUNDING FOR THESE ACTIVITIES COMES FROM THE FEDERAL AND STATE RESOURCES. THE EXPENSES COVER A POSITION (STATE COORDINATOR) AND TRAINING AND SUPPORT TO THE 7 CHILD ADVOCACY CENTERS. NEBRASKA HAS 7 ACCREDITED CHILD ADVOCACY CENTERS LOCATED IN NORFOLK, OMAHA, LINCOLN, GRAND ISLAND, KEARNEY, NORTH PLATTE AND SCOTTSBLUFF. COLLECTIVELY, THE STATE ALLIANCE OF CHILD ADVOCACY CENTERS SERVES MORE THAN 5,000 CHILDREN EACH YEAR, PROVIDING CHILD ABUSE MEDICAL EXAMS, FORENSIC INTERVIEWS, ADVOCACY AND CASE COORDINATION.CONNECTIONS: CONNECTIONS IS A VOLUNTARY PROGRAM AND REFERRALS ARE BASED ON PARENT CONSENT. WITH THE GROWING NEED FOR EARLY INTERVENTION PROGRAMS, CONNECTIONS WAS CREATED TO DETECT AND CONFRONT MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS IN CHILDREN AND TO SEEK APPROPRIATE SOLUTIONS THAT HELP EACH CHILD REACH HIS OR HER FULLEST POTENTIAL. CONNECTIONS WORKS WITH SCHOOL AND MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS TO IDENTIFY CHILDREN IN NEED OF SERVICES. WE MATCH CHILDREN WITH COMMUNITY THERAPISTS WHO ARE TRAINED IN EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICES AND PROVIDE ONGOING FOLLOW-UP TO FAMILIES, REFERRAL SOURCES AND PROVIDERS.
