Mission

Map is dedicated to helping rural communities and tribal nations improve their environment, quality of life, and achieve self-sustainability.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Map staff has been providing environmental report services and unique training classes for a fee. The environmental reports are required as part of any loan/grant applicatoin for funding. The communities being assisted have low median household incomes which limits their ability to pay for these services at market rate. The training has been geared towards the very small rural communities that are eligible for reimbursement under state funding programs.aside from helping communities provide safe, affordable drinking water or improved wastewater treatment, map's programs helped build the human capital and capacity of leaders and officials of small communities. Map staff conducted 40 workshops and trainings to serve the social and educational needs of remote and isolated communities within its nine-state region. Map receives federal grant funds from the environmental protection agency, health and human services office of community services, and the united states department of agriculture, rural development. The fy12 federal investment to map leveraged approximately $34,000,000 to finance new community infrastructure.

A LARGE EFFORT IS CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT INCLUDING ASSET MANAGEMENT PLANS.-IN FY12, MAP SERVED 454 COMMUNITIES UNDER 439 PROJECTS OF WHICH 74 WERE NEWLY INITIATED DURING THE YEAR. -THE AVERAGE MEDIAN INCOME OF COMMUNITIES RECEIVING ASSISTANCE WAS $28,592, WHICH IS 57% OF THE UNITED STATES MEDIAN FAMILY INCOME LEVEL OF $49,777. -152,585 MINORITY INDIVIDUALS RECEIVED ASSISTANCE. -MAP REACHED 134,170 HOUSEHOLDS WITH ON-SITE ASSISTANCE. -IN TOTAL, 415,418 PEOPLE HAVE BENEFITED FROM MAP'S ASSISTANCE. 126,180 OR 31% LIVE AT OR BELOW THE FEDERAL POVERTY RATE.
