Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Coastal communities collaboration- the coastal communities of southeast louisiana are bayou communities at risk due to land loss from industrialization, mostly from oil related work, and from climate change. Many of the communities have similarities in that they have been in place for many generations and are people who have been historically displaced, escaped, sold or pushed out of other regions of the world. The bayou communities have deep roots and knowledge to and of the land, water and traditions of their place and now that place is threatened. New maps created every several months by various agencies and research teams are only confirming what the people already know- the land is vanishing faster than plans for restoration or action to accommodate the inhabitants, human and non. Out of these concerns a loose coalition of communities, tribes and people have formed various networks and timely coalitions to address both root causes and to build agency- capacity of communities to have voice and decision power over their lives and of the places they love so much. As one leader has said, 'we can only continue to adapt in place until there are other alternatives available and those alternatives will not be available to us unless we make it happen'. The coastal communities collaborative project supports the work of the coastal communities.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4B

Sociological initiatives : a community based research project to explore the possibility of blending traditional ecological knowledge (tek) with traditional science/engineering, via practitioners of both, to achieve a timely research report recommending mitigating measures of a serious risk to the very existence of an indigenous community that may occur from the restoration of a large, marsh-filled bay in coastal louisiana in which the community resides? Past work has established the use of tek to augment traditional science/engineering in mapping physical and lifeway qualities of the bay project (bethel et al., j. Of coastal research, 2011, 2014). Data collection by the two approaches was done independently of one another. Given the success of this collaboration, it is believed that tek specialists and scientists/engineers can take the next step to more forcefully blend the two specialties and their data collection processes. The work requires appreciation of balanced/respectful engagement between the two methods/researchers valued by the par model.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4C

Unitarian universalist social committee- climate change fellowship innovation fellowship: best practices matrix for climate forced migration in southern louisiana combining best principles of human and environmental justice we have developed a matrix that communities can use as they are considering adaptation measures- the matrix includes green, storm mitigation, perma- culture, diversity and measure considered by the trades as platinum standards. Working with indigenous people, sustainable farmers/fishers, tribal communities the principles will be put into practice with the community members being the technical experts as well as the implementers and evaluators so as to do best tech transfer. Exploration of community land trusts to secure property for both immediate use and with land in northern realms that needs green-rejuvenation-retaining it for future community resettlements.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0COASTAL COMMUNITIES COLLABORATION- THE COASTAL COMMUNITIES OF SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA ARE BAYOU COMMUNITIES AT RISK DUE TO LAND LOSS FROM INDUSTRIALIZATION, MOSTLY FROM OIL RELATED WORK, AND FROM CLIMATE CHANGE.
