Marketing & economic development the jack london improvement district promotes and enhances the district as a place to live, work, and visit. These activities include but are not limited to: on-going collaborative and independent marketing, advertising, communications, public relations, event production, business education, support programs and direct sponsorships. Advocacy & governance through active community engagement with existing and prospective district stakeholders, the district provides a voice to promote the interests of the district. The districts represents its stakeholders before the city council and other agencies regarding issues that impact development and quality- of-life in the district. Efforts include land-use planning, transit improvements to ensure that district residents, businesses, workers, and tourists have access to and from 12th street bart and other oakland locations, train on-grade crossing improvements, as well as coordination with stakeholder agencies such as the port of oakland, amtrak, southern pacific, and caltrans. We expect the benefits to broaden as an improved standard is established, maintained, and even more people enjoy living, working, and visiting our district.”
