“Upturn arts provides year-round enrichment programming and summer & school holiday camps for new orleans children, regardless of socio-economic background, using a sliding-scale fee model, welcoming all students without auditions. Skilled master teachers and professional artists train students in dance, music, theater, improvisation, creative writing, drumming and yoga.our programs provide children with a well-rounded arts education designed to develop the self-esteem, confidence and collaborative skills necessary for children to become innovative thinkers and creative problem solvers. The students also gain a greater knowledge of new orleans rich cultural heritage while expanding their own individual creativity and self-expression. Instruction focuses on local artistic traditions including new orleans music, mardi gras indians, carnival masking and more.upturn arts mission is arts for all: we provide programs that foster personal growth and artistic development during the most important phases of a young persons life, helping them learn collaborative skills and motivating them to become creative, confident, productive members of society. This mission is thoroughly aligned with that of the helis foundations general fund focus on meeting community needs of local non-profits. And, most particularly, our emphasis on teaching children the creative arts ties in with the foundations overall emphasis on arts awareness and cultivation of the arts and artists within the new orleans community.in 2016, upturn arts instructed almost 600 young artists, 60% of whom received full scholarship or partial financial aid. We plan to extend our reach in 2017 to include 750 new orleans youth, and similar growth is planned for 2018 programming.”
