Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part X

On january 1, 2017, valir pace changed its method of recording medicare adjustments to refelct the amounts estimated to be collected in the following year for the current year's services. In all prior years, the adjustments were based on cms reviews and recorded to patient revenue when full resolution was determined, and the amount had been received or paid. The new method of accounting for medicare adjustments was adopted to better reflect the actual revenues of the company. The prior year 2016 balance sheet and income statement numbers were adjusted to apply the new method retrospectively. The financial statement line items for the 2016 year that were affected by the change in accounting principle were: medicare receivable increased $608,765; gross patient revenue increased $570,258; net assets at end of year increased $608,765.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

Valir pace, a not-for-profit charitable corporation, as defined in section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code, is exempt from federal income taxation pursuant to section 501(a) of the code. The organization has adopted the recognition requirements for uncertain income tax positions as required by generally accepted accounting principles, with no cumulative effect adjustment required. Income tax benefits are recognized for income tax positions taken or expected to be taken in a tax return, only when it is determined that the income tax position will more-likely-than-not be sustained upon examination by taxing authorities. The organization has analyzed tax positions taken for filing with the internal revenue service and the oklahoma tax commission. The organization believes that income tax filing positions will be sustained upon examination and does not anticipate any adjustments that would result in a material adverse affect on the organization's financial condition, results of operations, or cash flows. Accordingly, the organization has not recorded any reserves, or related accruals for interest and penalties for uncertain income tax positions at december 31, 2017. The organization is subject to routine audits by taxing jurisdictions; however, there are currently no audits for any tax periods in progress. The organization believes it is no longer subject to income tax examinations for years prior to 2014.
