| Education of Legal Professionals: One of the Foundations primary missions is to educate the public and legal professionals about the benefits of incorporating facility dogs into legal proceedings. During 2016 the Foundation: Held our fourth International Courthouse Dogs Conference that was attended by over 120 legal professionals, many of whom received continuing legal education credits required by their bar associations. Maintained and updated our website to be current on recent appellate court cases and the ongoing development of best practices in this field. | $43,667 | - |
| Training and Technical Assistance for Governmental and Nonprofit Agencies: The Foundations staff spends most of their daily activity providing training and technical assistance to people that contact the organization for answers to questions about how to implement a courthouse dog program. Most of this is done over the phone or by email; during 2016, the Foundation assisted more than 75 agencies with program development. This effort resulted in 48 new courthouse facility dogs in the United States and Canada in 2016. Nonprofit and governmental agencies assisted by our foundation included those in Alaska, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Idaho, Indiana, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin, as well as federal agencies. | $38,438 | - |
| Support to Assistance Dog Organizations: With the increasing demands for facility dogs it is very important for our Foundation to support the assistance dog organizations that breed, raise, and train the dogs and their legal professional handlers. This requires training them about this placement in the legal system, and supporting their non-profit organizations so that they can acquire the funds to continue their work. During this past year, we provided guidance for placements from eleven different assistance dog organizations accredited by Assistance Dogs International. | $8,400 | - |
| Facilitate Scientific Research on Courthouse Facility Dogs: The utilization of facility dogs in legal proceedings is still in its infancy and subject to legal challenges. Providing the courts with scientific data that supports the need for the dog is important. To advance this need we continued to work with graduate students around the country to put them in touch with agencies utilizing courthouse facility dogs, and mentor them in their projects. | $2,953 | - |
