| Asheville Movement Community, Inc. during 2017 hosted three weekly free-form movement events in service to an economically and socially diverse local community. Each event included a review of the organization's event guidelines, in order to encourage participation through self-expression and safe free-form movement. Participants ranged from children under supervision of their parents to persons aged 75 and older, and efforts were made so that, if possible, those coping with particular physical limitations might feel welcome to attend. All in all, our regularly scheduled events served about 7,159 attendees this year.Volunteers and elected participants continued to refine the organizations personnel and governance infrastructure, both to create opportunities for participation and to preserve the system of checks and balances. This was also done with an eye to reducing excessive administrative overhead, and improving the experience of community members who are not organizers, by shifting the format of the open community gatherings to be more connection- and feedback-focused than governance-focused. Pathways remain for direct participation in organizational decision making. AMC hosted four Dancers Gatherings (including the Annual Meeting) to help engage the community in the volunteerism and organizational decision making, and to open a more personal pathway to feedback with the community. Several volunteers were trained to hold leadership positions, such as Room Coordinators, in the organization.The Annual Community Meeting (third annual, and a Dancers Gathering) was held in November. Participants were invited to dialogue about several topics related to the organization's growth and development, including: childcare at events, how to elicit participation, policy, thriving, how to improve AMCs offerings, and our long term vision. Participants were also provided with current information about the organization's finances, staff and operation s. It is estimated that well over 1,000 volunteer hours were contributed to the mission and events in 2017. AMC also continued to train new officers and individual volunteers in operational tasks including budgeting and finance reporting, governance process and event production. In 2017 AMC brought on one new volunteer coordinator. The part-time Interim Executive Director and part-time Interim Executive Secretary positions were made permanent. The part-time Event Coordinator position was reinstated in November.AMC moved its primary events in May 2017 to a new venue that offered lower rental fees and a more welcoming environment. Attendance was impacted just after the move, yet was stabilized by the end of the year, as many new dance participants became regulars. AMC has been able to maintain an uninterrupted event schedule while continuing to offer affordable sliding scale admission prices for dancers.2017 exhibited a marked increase of extra-organizational collaborations with past AMC movement event facilitators, and with other new facilitators drawn from within our own dance community or from similar modalities active in the external community. There were seven live music events which have opened the door for similar collaborations, four collaborations with another freeform movement organization in the area, one involving a group from Oregon on a dance bus tour, and seven other guest facilitations. AMC pursued these collaborations while also offering guidance and support for the guest facilitators and musicians in creating appropriate settings for the free-form dance experience and safe authentic expression. AMC and Warren Wilson College Wellness Department entered a Memorandum of Understanding to get students involved in our movement practice. Four times annually AMC utilizes a venue at the college where students may engage as volunteers and are invited to participate in the dance event for free. Another collaboration with the Asheville Massage School offered participants an introduction to the practice by one of our facilitators.
