Mission

The mission of the program is to foster self-esteem, social awareness, mutual respect, teamwork, and joy in young people and their communities through social dance education and performance.

To change the way communities view social and cultural differences by building confidence and instilling joy in children, inspiring respect for others, and working together as partners to break down barriers through the practice of ballroom dance.

FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

To change the way communities view social and cultural differences by building confidence and instilling joy in children, inspiring respect for others, and working together as partners to break down barriers through the practice of ballroom dance.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Through standards-based curriculum, the dcp in-school residency programs used ballroom dancing vocabulary to cultivate positive self- identity in every child. Dcp was a mandatory component of the 5th grade curriculum in participating schools. The program took place in classrooms during the regular school day, and both classroom teachers and all students participated, regardless of background, experience or ability. Dcp teaching artists instructed students in social dances such as the fox trot, rumba, swing, tango, waltz and merengue and selected sugar dances such as the heel-toe polka, the stomp, and the electric slide. The program was structured around 10-week semesters. Amounts do not include 2,000 in donated space and 3,740 in donated legal services.

The organization is a not-for-profit organization that is exempt from income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and classified by the internal revenue service as other than a private foundation. As required by the fasb accounting standards codification, entities are required to determine whether it is more likely than not that a tax position will be sustained upon examination by the appropriate taxing authorities before any part of the benefit can be recorded in the financial statements. It also provides guidance on the recognition, measurement, and classification of income tax uncertainties, along with any related interest or penalties. This standard had no impact on the organization's financial statements. The organization's federal tax return is subject to audit by taxing authorities. LESSONS IN CIVILITY, RESPECT, FOCUS AND DISCIPLINE ARE INHERENT IN THIS PROGRAM AND THE PROGRAM HAS BEEN DESCRIBED AS LIFE LESSONS WRAPPED AROUND BALLROOM DANCE. THE DCP PROGRAM BROUGHT A PROVEN CURRICULUM ALSO KNOWN AS THE DULAINE METHOD DIRECTLY TO THE CLASSROOM AND SERVED CHILDREN WHO REFLECT THE DEMOGRAPHIC OF THE REGION AS A WHOLE. CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O. THROUGH STANDARDS-BASED CURRICULUM, THE DCP IN-SCHOOL RESIDENCY PROGRAMS USED BALLROOM DANCING VOCABULARY TO CULTIVATE POSITIVE SELF- IDENTITY IN EVERY CHILD.
