Guitarist nicol paganini and his 20th-century counterpart, blues guitar legend robert johnson. Living proof exhibit: cancer survivor art showcasing the passion, courage, and talent of cancer survivors who use art as a way to celebrate and reflect upon survival. Scrimmage: football in american art from the civil war to the present features works dating from the 1850's to 2014 that take as their subject various aspects of the game of football. The art of persuasion: american propaganda posters and the great war explores how some of the most important artists and illustrators of the day supported the war effort. Jefferson pinder: ghost light the artist jefferson pinder created a site-specific and performance based installation exploring race and conditioning in the midwest.

All works of art and library collections are held for public exhibition, education, or research; are protected, kept unencumbered, cared for, preserved, and are subject to strict organzational policies governing their use. The value of the art museum's permanent collection is not subject to reasonable estimation. The organization's collection is essential in performing its function as a museum.

Income from the permanent endowment is used to fund the art museum's purchase of art objects or for other purposes as set forth by the board.

The art museum has received notfication that it qualifies as a tax-exempt organzation under section 501(c)(3) of the u.s. Internal revenue code and the corresponding provisions of iowa law and, accordingly, is not subject to federal or state income taxes. The art museum evaluates the tax benefits of a tax position using the "more likely than not" threshold. As of june 30, 2017, management is not aware of any uncertain tax positions and related tax benefits which would be material to the art museum's financial statements. The art museum files a u.s. Federal informational return which for fiscal years subsequent to 2013 is subject to examination by taxing authorities.
