Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The form 990 draft is received by the executive director and is provided to the board of directors prior to the filing. The process is that the executive director receives the form 990 draft and then forwards it to the finance committee. After their review the executive director forwards it to the full board for their review. Hard copies are always available on site for further study.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

The organization has a written conflict of interest policy. Each year the board members complete a statement that they have no conflict of interest. If any conflict exists, full disclosure is made to the board and a decision is made if any action is required or if conflict represents no threat to the integrity of the organization.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The board appoints a personnel committee each year to complete a review of performance and compensation of the executive director. The committee researches current salaries among similar non-profits and makes a recommendation to the board for salary revision for the next year.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

Prior year information returns (form 990) are available for public inspection on the guidestar website located at www.guidestar.org. The organization's governing documents, policies, financial statements and information returns are available upon request.

Additional Explanations

FORM 990, PART XII, LINE 2C:

The process has not changed from prior years.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The center is exempt from income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the u.s. Internal revenue code. Accordingly, no provision for income taxes has been provided in these financial statements. In addition, the center qualifies for the charitable contribution deduction under section 170(b)(1)(a) and has been classified as an organization that is not a private foundation under section 509(a)(1). Unrelated business income, if any, may be subject to income tax. The center paid no taxes on unrelated business income in the year ended june 30, 2018. Generally accepted accounting principles require the recognition, measurement, classification, and disclosure in the financial statements of uncertain tax positions taken or expected to be taken in the organization's tax returns. Management has determined that the center does not have any uncertain tax positions and associated unrecognized benefits that materially impact the financial statements or related disclosures. Since tax matters are subject to some degree of uncertainty, there can be no assurance that the center's tax returns will not be challenged by the taxing authorities and that the center will not be subject to additional tax, penalties, and interest as a result of such challenge. Generally, the center's tax returns remain open for federal income tax examination for three years from the date of filing.

PART XI, LINE 4B - OTHER ADJUSTMENTS:

Fundraising expenses -30,076.

PART XII, LINE 2D - OTHER ADJUSTMENTS:

IRS990ScheduleD/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0THE CENTER IS EXEMPT FROM INCOME TAX UNDER SECTION 501(C)(3) OF THE U.S.
