THE ORGANIZATION, ALONG WITH VOLUNTEERS AND TEAMS FROM AREA CHURCHES, WELCOMES REFUGEES AT THE AIRPORT, ARRANGES APPROPRIATE HOUSING, PROVIDES BEDS, FURNITURE AND HOUSEHOLD SUPPLIES (LINENS, POTS, PANS, ETC), AND HELPS REFUGEES ENROLL IN ESL, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND CONNECTS THEM WITH SOCIAL SERVICES FOR WHICH THEY ARE ELIGIBLE (MEDICAL, PUBLIC ASSISTANCE, SOCIAL SECURITY AND REFUGEE EMPLOYMENT SERVICES).

THE ORGANIZATION ALSO PROVIDES TRAINING TO CHURCHES AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS (AS WELL AS SHADOWING OPPORTUNITIES FOR THOSE SEEKING BIA ACCREDITATION) SO THAT THEY CAN ASSIST REFUGEES AND IMMIGRANTS PREPARING FOR CIVIC TESTS THEY MUST TAKE TO QUALIFY FOR NATURALIZATION. A TOTAL OF 1,358 CLIENTS WERE SERVED IN FISCAL YEAR 2018.REFUGEE CASH ASSISTANCE (RCA): THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES REFUGEES (SINGLE AND MARRIED WITHOUT CHILDREN) WITH CASH ASSISTANCE BENEFITS FOR UP TO EIGHT MONTHS WHILE THEY TAKE ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSES AND SEARCH FOR EMPLOYMENT. 38 CLIENTS WERE ENROLLED AND SERVED THROUGH THIS PROGRAM IN FISCAL YEAR 2018.MNSURE: THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES NAVIGATORS TO ASSIST REFUGEES AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO ENROLL IN MEDICAL INSURANCE PROGRAMS. DURING FISCAL YEAR 2018 WE ENROLLED 109 IN MEDICAL ASSISTANCE, 8 IN MINNESOTA CARE, AND PROVIDED 7 OTHERS WITH INSURANCE ENROLLMENT ASSISTANCE.REFUGEE LIFE MINISTRIES (RLM): SEVERAL DOZEN CHURCHES MATCHES CHURCH TEAMS AND SMALL GROUPS WITH REFUGEE FAMILIES SERVICED THROUGH THE R&P PROGRAM. THESE TEAMS PROVIDE FRIENDSHIP, ENCOURAGEMENT, MENTORING, AND PRACTICAL ASSISTANCE DURING THE REFUGEE FAMILY'S FIRST YEAR IN THE TWIN CITIES. THESE 33 CHURCH TEAMS (ALONG WITH 15 NEW NEIGHBOR VOLUNTEERS) AUGMENTED SERVICES FOR REFUGEES DESCRIBED ABOVE AND IN FISCAL YEAR 2018 HELPED 221 REFUGEES.SOMALI ADULT LITERACY TRAINING (SALT): THIS PROGRAM PROVIDED ELL CLASSES FOR SOMALIS LIVING IN THE TWIN CITIES AS WELL AS PROGRAM SUPPORT FOR CLASSES IN FARIBAULT, ST CLOUD AND WILLMAR, MN (24 SITES TOTAL). IN ADDITION TO CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION, SEVERAL HUNDRED STUDENTS WERE PAIRED WITH A TUTOR TO ENHANCE THEIR LEARNING AND PROVIDE AMERICAN FRIENDSHIPS FOR GREATER UNDERSTANDING AND MUTUAL LEARNING.RAJO MINISTRIES: THIS IS A PROGRAM THAT BRINGS LONG-TERM RESIDENTS OF THE TWIN CITIES INTO CONTACT WITH THEIR SOMALI NEIGHBORS THROUGH SHARED ACTIVITIES LIKE QUILTING, TUTORING, COOKING AND YOUTH SPORTS AS IT PROVIDES TRAINING TO VOLUNTEERS. VOLUNTEERS WHO PARTICIPATED IN RAJO SPONSORED TRAINING ON SOLMALI CULTURE AND TRAUMA EXCEED 350 PEOPLE.REFUGEE COMMUNITY GARDENS: THIS PROGRAM MATCHES REFUGEE GARDENERS WITH CHURCH AND COMMUNITY GARDENING PLOTS WHILE ALSO PROVIDING GARDENING INSTRUCTION AND MENTORING THROUGH COOPERATION WITH CAPI, KAREN ORGANIZATION OF MINNESOTA (KOM) AND THE BHUTANESE COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION OF MINNESOTA (BCOM). THE NUMBER OF CHURCHES INVOLVED HAS GROWN TO 25 WITH 1,998 REFUGEES WITH GARDEN PLOTS AT AREA CHURCHES DURING THE GROWING SEASON OF 2017.
