THE ORGANIZATION, ALONG WITH VOLUNTEERS AND TEAMS FROM AREA CHURCHES, WELCOMED REFUGEES AT THE AIRPORT, ARRANGED APPROPRIATE HOUSING, PROVIDED BEDS, FURNITURE AND HOUSEHOLD SUPPLIES (LINENS, POTS, PANS, ETC), AND HELPED REFUGEES ENROLL IN ESL, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND CONNECTED THEM WITH SOCIAL SERVICES FOR WHICH THEY WERE ELIGIBLE (MEDICAL, PUBLIC ASSISTANCE, SOCIAL SECURITY AND REFUGEE EMPLOYMENT SERVICES).

THE ORGANIZATION ALSO PROVIDED TRAINING TO CHURCHES AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS (AS WELL AS SHADOWING OPPORTUNITIES FOR THOSE SEEKING BIA ACCREDITATION) SO THAT THEY CAN ASSIST REFUGEES AND IMMIGRANTS PREPARE FOR CIVIC TESTS THEY MUST TAKE TO QUALIFY FOR NATURALIZATION. A TOTAL OF 1,367 CLIENTS WERE SERVED IN FISCAL YEAR 2017.REFUGEE CASH ASSISTANCE (RCA): THIS PROGRAM PROVIDED REFUGEES (SINGLE AND MARRIED WITHOUT CHILDREN) WITH CASH ASSISTANCE BENEFITS FOR UP TO EIGHT MONTHS WHILE THEY TOOK ENGLISH LANGUAGE CLASSES AND SEARCHED FOR EMPLOYMENT. 97 CLIENTS WERE ENROLLED AND SERVED THROUGH THIS PROGRAM IN FISCAL YEAR 2017.REFUGEE LIFE MINISTRIES (RLM): SEVERAL DOZEN CHURCHES MATCHED CHURCH TEAMS AND SMALL GROUPS WITH REFUGEE FAMILIES SERVICED THROUGH THE R&P PROGRAM. THESE TEAMS PROVIDED FRIENDSHIP, ENCOURAGEMENT, MENTORING, AND PRACTICAL ASSISTANCE DURING THE REFUGEE FAMILY'S FIRST YEAR IN THE TWIN CITIES. THESE TEAMS (ALONG WITH ADDITIONAL NEW NEIGHBOR VOLUNTEERS) AUGMENTED SERVICES FOR REFUGEES DESCRIBED ABOVE AND IN FISCAL YEAR 2017 HELPED 35 REFUGEE FAMILIES.SOMALI ADULT LITERACY TRAINING (SALT): THIS PROGRAM PROVIDED ELL CLASSES FOR SOMALIS LIVING IN THE TWIN CITIES AS WELL AS PROGRAM SUPPORT FOR CLASSES IN KANSAS CITY, FARIBAULT, ST CLOUD AND WILLMAR, MN (26 SITES TOTAL). IN ADDITION TO CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION, SEVERAL HUNDRED STUDENTS WERE PAIRED WITH A TUTOR TO ENHANCE THEIR LEARNING AND PROVIDE AMERICAN FRIENDSHIPS FOR GREATER UNDERSTANDING AND MUTUAL LEARNING.RAJO MINISTRIES: THIS PROGRAM BROUGHT LONG-TERM RESIDENTS OF THE TWIN CITIES INTO CONTACT WITH THEIR SOMALI NEIGHBORS THROUGH SHARED ACTIVITIES LIKE QUILTING, TUTORING, COOKING AND YOUTH SPORTS.REFUGEE COMMUNITY GARDENS: THIS PROGRAM MATCHED REFUGEE GARDENERS WITH CHURCH AND COMMUNITY GARDENING PLOTS WHILE ALSO PROVIDING GARDENING INSTRUCTION AND MENTORING THROUGH COOPERATION WITH CAPI, KAREN ORGANIZATION OF MINNESOTA (KOM) AND THE BHUTANESE COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION OF MINNESOTA (BCOM). THE NUMBER OF CHURCHES INVOLVED HAS GROWN TO 25 WITH 1,887 REFUGEE GARDENERS DURING THE GROWING SEASON.

ARRIVE MINISTRIES WILL REVIEW SUB-RECIPIENTS AUDITS ENSURING A SINGLE AUDIT WAS PERFORMED WHERE REQUIRED AND THAT CORRECTIVE ACTION HAS BEEN TAKEN IF THE AUDIT REVEALS IT IS NECESSARY. THE ACCOUNTING OFFICE WILL PERFORM A DESK AUDIT OF THE SUB-RECIPIENT'S MONTHLY REIMBURSEMENT REQUEST TWO TIMES DURING THE FISCAL YEAR CONTRACT. THE AUDIT IS FOR THE PURPOSE OF MONITORING, DOING A SAMPLING TO ENSURE INTERNAL CONTROLS ARE IN PLACE AND ENSURING THE SUB-RECIPIENT IS IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE GRANT EXPECTATIONS.
