FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION

Creating connections that enrich aging. Darts supports older adults independence by providing home services; accessible ride services, supports family caregivers with resources, counseling and support; engages all ages to volunteer

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 2

We now provide dakota county residents the option for in-home aging guidance, a service in which a social worker visits an older adult at their home, learns and assesses needs and provides guidance and support to help the home owner access the necessary supports and services. A support group for caregivers who recently lost a loved one "resuming connections" was piloted in apple valley.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4C

Service coordination and caregiver services darts' licensed social workers and professional service coordinators work with older adults and family caregivers to assess needs and provide guidance, including on-site independent living support at area housing facilities. 85% report the service found them the supports they needed and caregivers report reduced stress from these interactions. Darts' information and assistance call line is the entry point. Social workers work with caregivers of older adults to provide counseling and resource connection. In 2019, darts served 191unduplicated caregivers with access assistance, support groups, memory cafe, counseling, family meeting and/or respite. Service coordinators worked with the volunteer manager to match volunteers to families needing respite care. In 2019, 13 families received respite care. Darts offered 70 caregiver, dementia awareness and medicare group education events with 1,316 attendees. In 2019, darts tracked 765 requests for information and assistance through phone and email requests, provided service coordination to 426 clients in the ten area housing facilities, and provided grocery shopping or visiting services to 22 clients.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4D

Other programs darts' learning buddies program allows adult volunteers to share their time and knowledge with elementary and middle school students. 95% of the volunteers report participating makes them feel more connected in the community. Learning buddies supported 4,500 students in 47 elementary and middle schools in dakota, scott, and ramsey counties. The learning buddies program trains volunteers to tutor and mentor elementary and middle school students to raise their proficiency levels in reading, math, and science. Buddies work in 205 classrooms in 47 schools to broaden students learning skills and support students social and emotional learning to prepare them for the self-mastery required for becoming independent, life-long learners. Darts pen pals pair up with elementary students, writing monthly to each other to build communication skills and develop relationship building skills. Last year, learning buddies and pen pal volunteers contributed 7,516 hours to enhance student learning and become and intergenerational friend. In total, darts used 14,490 volunteers supporting programs and providing administrative help in the darts office.

The organization is exempt from income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and a similar section of state income tax laws, with the exception of certain business activities that are not related to the organization's exempt purpose. For the years ended december 31, 2019 and 2018, the financial statements reflect no provision for unrelated business income taxes. Accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america require management to evaluate tax positions taken by the organization and recognize a tax liability (or asset) for any uncertain position that more likely than not would not be sustained upon examination by the applicable tax authorities. The organization is subject to routine audits by taxing authorities; however, there are currently no audits for any tax periods in progress.
