Activity 2

Public policy: misf informs lawmakers, policy makers and the general public about the contributions independent education makes to our state and society. We act as a watchdog to safeguard public funds every independent school and their students have the right to receive. We act as a collective voice to advance independent school interests at the legislature, with state agents, and the general public.

Activity 3

Misf welcomed 33 new schools and nearly 5,500 students to its membership roll. Thirty of the 33 new schools served elementary students. As of june 30, 2012, misf's membership included a total of 106 schools serving 25,480 students. Eighty-four of these schools serve elementary grades, while 22 schools serve high school grades. Forty school leaders and administrators from 33 member schools attended misf's sixth annual school head retreat held october 4-5, 2011. A total of nearly 60 participants, including speakers and sponsors, participated. During 2011-2012, misf held seven, two-hour professional development networking meetings serving a total of nearly 300 individuals from the state's k-12 private and independent schools. Four of the workshops focused on development/marketing, and three focused on admissions.
