Mission

We believe that when every independent school is connected and strong, minnesota's families will be able to select the school that best fits their children, and minnesota's students will excel.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Membership: misf welcomed 36 new schools and nearly 6,200 students to its membership roll in 2012-13. As of june 30, 2013, misf's membership included a total of 143 schools serving 31,202 students. Out of the total member schools, 101 serve elementary grades (k-8), 9 schools serve high school grades only (9-12), and 23 schools serve a combination (k-12, 6-12, etc.). School head retreat: fifty-four school leaders and administrators from 43 member schools attended misf's seventh annual school head retreat held october 2-3, 2012. A total of nearly 75 participants, including speakers and sponsors, participated. Professional development workshops: during 2012-13, misf held seven, two-hour professional development workshops serving a total of nearly 250 individuals from the state's k-12 private and independent schools. Four of the workshops focused on development, and three focused on admissions/marketing.
Activity 3
More than 300 guests attended the 2013 private and independent education awards celebration held in woulfe alumni hall on the campus of the university of st. Thomas (st. Paul). This was misf's sixth annual awards celebration. The benilde-st. Margaret's orchestra provided student entertainment. John taft, ceo of rbc wealth management-u.s., the presenting sponsor of the event, provided the opening keynote address on his book, "stewardship." bob stromberg, this year's event emcee, led the evening with his humorous and entertaining "act," and shared his passion and background in private education. Misf was honored to welcome loyola catholic school as its 140th official member and to present 30 awards, including 18 stem mini-grants totaling nearly $118,000. The evening was complete with video presentations of each award finalist and the unveiling of the 2013 honor teacher winners (one grades k-8 teacher; one grades 9-12 teacher).

CATHERINE UNIVERSITY. AUTHOR JIM LINK OPENED THE 2012 STEM SEMINAR WITH HIS ENGAGING KEYNOTE ADDRESS ON SOLVING COMPLICATED CHALLENGES WITH STARTLING SIMPLICITY. TWENTY-ONE BREAKOUT SESSIONS, TAILORED SPECIFICALLY FOR EDUCATORS IN GRADES K-4, 5-8 AND 9-12, COVERED A WIDE RANGE OF SUBJECTS.
