Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part III, Line 3

Due to covid restrictions on public gatherings, concerts have moved to an online instead of in-person format. The scholarship competition was changed from in-person to digital. Music lessons are provided online instead of in-person. The museum is currently closed to the public (but would have been temporarily closed anyway due to the redesign project).

Financial Statement Notes

PART III, LINE 1A:

The schubert club museums collections, which were acquired through purchases and contributions since the organizations inception, are not recognized as assets on the balance sheet. Purchases of collection items are recorded as decreases in unrestricted net assets in the year in which the items are acquired or as temporarily restricted net assets if the assets used to purchase the items are restricted by donors. Contributed collection items are not reflected on the financial statements. Proceeds from de-accessions or insurance recoveries are reflected as increases in the appropriate net asset classes.

PART III, LINE 4:

The schubert club museum in landmark center holds a collection of historically important instruments from around the world and manuscripts from great composers. Recognized for its integration of exhibits and performances, individual tours, and the opportunity to play reproductions of historical instruments, the museum includes three main collections: the keyboard collection with more than 100 instruments, dating from 1542 to the present; the kugler collection of musical instruments from around the world, and an indonesian gamelan orchestra; and the gilman ordway manuscript collection, with over 100 original documents written by great composers including beethoven, mozart, haydn and schubert.

PART V, LINE 4:

The schubert club established the endowment fund in order to provide long-term stability for the organization. Annual draws from the endowment fund support general operations, concerts, museum exhibits, music education, and scholarships.

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization has a tax exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and minnesota statute. It has been classified as an organization that is not a private foundation under the internal revenue code and charitable contributions by donors are tax deductible. The organization is liable for federal and state income tax on any unrelated business income. The organization has adopted the provisions of accounting for uncertainty in income taxes. This standard clarifies the accounting for uncertainty in income taxes recognized in an entitys financial statements and prescribes a recognition threshold for the financial statement recognition of tax positions taken or expected to be taken on a tax return that are not certain to be realized. The implementation of this standard had no impact on the organizations financial statements.

THIS SERIES WAS LAUNCHED IN 1893, AND CONTINUES TODAY AT THE ORDWAY CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS IN SAINT PAUL. IN 2019-2020 THE FOUR IAS CONCERTS THROUGH MARCH 2020 ATTRACTED NEARLY 5,500 AUDIENCE MEMBERS. MUSIC IN THE PARK SERIES IS ONE OF THE FEW DEDICATED CHAMBER MUSIC SERIES IN MINNESOTA, AND IT FEATURES ENSEMBLES OF NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL PROMINENCE. THROUGH MID-MARCH 2020, MUSIC IN THE PARK SERIES PRESENTED CHAMBER MUSIC ENSEMBLES AT SAINT ANTHONY PARK UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST IN THREE CONCERTS TO 1,000 PEOPLE. IN ADDITION, SCHUBERT CLUB PRESENTED ONE FAMILY CONCERT SERVING 75 CHILDREN AND ADULTS IN SAINT ANTHONY PARK AND A SENSORY-FRIENDLY CONCERT AT THE HALLIE Q.
