After the form 990 is prepared by the organization's accounting firm, and prior to filing the form 990, the director of operations performed an in-depth review. A copy of form 990 is sent electronically to each board member prior to filing with the irs.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Annually, the officers and directors are provided a copy of the conflict of interest policy to sign, confirming that they have received, read, understood, and will follow the policy. School choice wisconsin staff review the signed policies to ensure taht all have been completed. The conflict of interest policy covers the organization's board members and officers and requires them to report any conflicts. In situations where a conflict exists, the individual shall be excluded from any discussion or vote regarding the transaction or arrangement at issue and shall not be present in the meeting room during any part of the discussion or vote. This policy is regularly monitored during all board meetings and discussions.

The executive board reviewed the president's salary in 2022, using comparability data, and presented a recommendation to the entire board for vote. Staff compensation is determined by the president's recommendation, contingent on the approval of the executive board.

FORM 990, PART IX, LINE 5:

School choice wisconsin, inc. (scw) shares common management personnel with school choice wisconsin action, inc. (scwa), an unrelated organization which is a nonprofit corporation as described in section 501(c)(4) of the internal revenue code. As part of this arrangement, a service agreement between entities covers shared costs, such as office rental expense and other general and administrative expenses. The reportable compensation and other compensation that management personnel receive for services rendered to both entities is paid by scw and reflected in columns (d) and (f) in part vii.

PART X, LINE 2:

School choice and parent choice are exempt from federal income taxes pursuant to the provisions of section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code as other than a private foundation. School choice and parent choice evaluates its uncertain tax positions on an annual basis, and there have been no recorded uncertain tax positions recorded in 2023, 2022, or 2021. Therefore, no provision or liability for income taxes has been included in the consolidated financial statements. School choice and parent choice file various federal or state non-profit tax returns. School choice and parent choice are no longer subject to u.s. Federal or state examinations by tax authorities for tax years prior to 2020.

CALCULATION OF PUBLIC SUPPORT PERCENTAGE. SCW ANTICIPATES THAT, OF THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF SUPPORT THAT IT WILL RECEIVE IN 2023, APPROXIMATELY 30% WILL QUALIFY AS PUBLIC SUPPORT. 2. CONTINUOUS AND BONA FIDE FUNDRAISING PROGRAM. SCW HAS A CONTINUOUS AND BONA FIDE PROGRAM FOR SOLICITATION OF FUNDS FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC, GOVERNMENTAL UNITS, OR PUBLIC CHARITIES. FUNDRAISING EFFORTS IN 2023 (DESCRIPTION): SCW DISTRIBUTED AN ELECTRONIC NEWSLETTER TO 3,000 SUBSCRIBERS THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF WISCONSIN. EACH NEWSLETTER PROMOTED SCW'S WORK IN SUPPORT OF SCHOOL CHOICE PROGRAMS, PRESENTED VARIOUS EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES, AND A DIRECT CALL TO ACTION TO SOLICIT NEW FUNDS. ADDITIONALLY, A YEAR END APPEAL HIGHLIGHTING THE ORGANIZATION'S ACTIVITIES WAS MAILED TO 246 RECIPIENTS. IN 2023 SCW CONTINUED TO UTILIZE SOCIAL MEDIA TO INCREASE AWARENESS OF OUR ORGANIZATION'S MISSION AND TO APPEAL TO NEW SUPPORTERS. CONTENT INCLUDED INFORMATION ABOUT SCHOOL CHOICE OPEN ENROLLMENT PERIODS AND DONOR-CENTRIC MESSAGES, ALONG WITH A POSITIVE STORY CAMPAIGN FEATURING SCHOOLS WITHIN THE PROGRAM AND STUDENT/FAMILY SUCCESS STORIES. THESE STORIES HELPED SCW BUILD ITS GENERAL PROGRAM AWARENESS AND PROVIDED INSIGHT INTO SCW'S OVERALL MISSION. ALL WHEN CLICKED LINKED BACK TO THE APPROPRIATE PAGE ON WWW.SCHOOLCHOICEWI.ORG. A GIVING TUESDAY CAMPAIGN ALSO SOUGHT TO INCREASE GREATER BRAND AWARENESS. IN TOTAL, THERE WERE 17 NEW DONORS IN 2023.SCW ORGANIZED COMMUNITY EVENTS LIKE THE 2023 BACK TO SCHOOL BACKPACK GIVEAWAY EVENTS AND ART CONTEST. THESE EVENTS INTRODUCED NEW DONORS TO OUR ORGANIZATION, CREATED AWARENESS THROUGHOUT THE GREATER COMMUNITY AND ENGAGED NEW VOLUNTEERS. FUNDRAISING EFFORTS FOR 2024 (DESCRIPTION): THROUGHOUT 2024, SCW WILL WORK DIRECTLY WITH OUR BOARD TO IMPLEMENT A MULTIFACETED PLAN AIMED AT RETAINING CURRENT DONORS AND EXPANDING OUR DONOR BASE. EFFORTS INCLUDE IDENTIFYING A LIST OF POTENTIAL DONORS, ASSEMBLING CONTENT TO REFLECT SCW'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS, SETTING UP MEETINGS WITH CURRENT AND PROSPECTIVE DONORS AND CONTINUED DONOR SUPPORT/CONTACT. IN 2024, PARTICULAR ATTENTION WILL FOCUS ON INCREASING THE NUMBER OF SMALL DONORS. SCW WILL ALSO CONTINUE TO WORK TO CREATE BROADER PROGRAM AWARENESS AND PUBLIC SUPPORT THOROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA, NEWSLETTER AND PRESS RELEASE EFFORTS. THIS COMBINED WITH PREVIOUS AND CONSISTENT EFFORTS, ALLOWS FOR A BROADER AWARENESS OF THE ROLE SCW PLAYS TO ADVANCE EDUCATIONAL REFORM THROUGHOUT THE STATE.
