“NSF-MRI 3D Scanning Laser Vibrometer A 3D Scanning Laser Vibrometer was acquired in Oct 2023. This award enabled fundamental and applied research at KU and several other universities in the areas of biomedical engineering, structural health monitoring, materials modeling and testing, and vehicle and tire dynamics. Fifteen graduate and undergraduate students have been trained to use the system and five students are using the system as part of their thesis. The instrument was integrated into two courses in mechanical engineering. It will also be used in an NSF REU site starting summer 2025. It enabled two industry sponsored projects by Yokohama and Cummins. A collaborative tutorial with UT Austin at IMAC, three conference papers and four conference or workshop presentations have yet been produced under this award, thus far. There are four journal papers in process. Small Business Development Center 2023 This subaward is issued by the MI-SBDC Lead Center at Grand Valley State University for the performance for a Scope of Work originally awarded to the Prime recipient. GVSU is the prime recipient of the US Small Business Administration (SBA) Small Business Development Center cooperative agreement to establish a statewide network of a State Lead Center and SBDC Regional Centers. The Regional center housed at Kettering develops and maintains a comprehensive small business assistance program that provides consulting, training and research services to promote business start-up, innovation and expansion. Economic impact success in this time frame: 46 new business starts, 128 new jobs, 154 jobs retained, $8,528,750 in capital formation, sales and 200 training attendees. 30% Businesses of color, 68% disadvantaged businesses. Small Business Development Center 2024 This subaward is issued by the MI-SBDC Lead Center at Grand Valley State University for the performance for a Scope of Work originally awarded to the Prime recipient. GVSU is the prime recipient of the US Small Business Administration (SBA) Small Business Development Center cooperative agreement to establish a statewide network of a State Lead Center and SBDC Regional Centers. The Regional center housed at Kettering develops and maintains a comprehensive small business assistance program that provides consulting, training and research services to promote business start-up, innovation and expansion. Economic impact success in this time frame: 62 new business starts, 157 new jobs, 103 jobs retained, $16,576,671.29 in capital formation, sales and 350 training attendees. 32% Businesses of color, 69% disadvantaged.”
