Activity 3

Research. Top three projects: Predictive Model for Assessment of Chemicals on and in Surfaces vs. Chemicals Available for Contact and Transport. Development of a model (computer program) to solve the coupled transfer and transport of a droplet between two contacting surfaces. The model must include evaporation, chemical reaction, and adsorption models for correct prediction of a chemical agent available to pose a contact hazard. Agent Fate Appropriate Response Operations Tool. Development of a model (computer program) to model spread, surface evaporation, secondary evaporation, and chemical reaction of chemical agents by first principle concepts to create a general purpose code for further studies; to develop an appropriate response tool that can be utilized in the field for assessing the contamination level under real time environmental conditions (wind speed, turbulence, and temperature). 21St Century Renewable Fuels, Energy and Materials Initiative. Background: Although fuel cells provide the ideal solution for a myriad of on-board electric power generation applications, Low Temperature PEM (Polymer Exchange Membrane) fuel cells operate at 80C and require nearly pure hydrogen to operate. However, the lack of a hydrogen infrastructure has been a significant barrier for commercialization, especially for large volume markets such as commercial transport, military silent watch, residential homes, telecommunications, and waste fuel processing to power applications.
