Jvs helps people meet life challenges affecting their self-sufficiency through counseling, training, and support services in accordance with jewish values of equal opportunity, compassion, responsibility & the steadfast belief that the best way to help people is to make it possible for them to help themselves. Jvs serves individuals with disabilities, the frail & at-risk elderly, youth, unemployed and underemployed workers, people who are homeless and/or seeking affordable housing through a variety of human services & education & training opportunities that maximize their abilities and support their independence. To maximize opportunities for our clients & build relationships with potential employers, services are provided to non-profit orgs & for profit businesses, & may include, but are not limited to industrial sub-contracts, job placement, vocational assessment, training & rehabilitation programs & human resource services related to vocational and employment issues & opportunities.

“Board of trustees bylaws amendments the bylaws of jvs were amended and approved by the jvs board of trustees at its june 18, 2019 meeting. In addition to non-substantive amendments to the bylaws for clarification, the following were also added: 1) the board composition was reduced from between 20 and 50, to 20 and 45; 2) under section 3.5 voting, a section 3.5(c) was added to include: written consent - unless otherwise restricted by the michigan nonprofit corporation act, the corporation's articles of incorporation or these bylaws, any action required or permitted to be taken at any meeting of the board of trustees or the executive committee may be taken without a meeting, if a majority of the members of the board of trustees or the executive committee, as the case may be, consent thereto in writing, and the writing or writings are filed with the minutes or proceedings of the board of trustees or the executive or committee. 3) in article 4 committees, the following changes were made: in article 4.1 executive committee, the chairperson has the authority to appoint a former trustee to serve on the executive committee as an ex-officio member in a non-voting capacity. Article 4.2 committees, the nominating committee responsibilities were updated to remove the leadership development committee duties in assisting with the nominating process for elected members to serve as trustees. Article 4.4 advisory committees, was updated to eliminate advisory committees and provide the authority to the chairperson of the board of trustees, at their discretion, to establish advisory committees chaired by a standing board member appointed by the chairperson, and each committee membership comprised of community stakeholders with related interest and/or expertise, as warranted to support agency operations and subject to the direction and responsibilities of the board.”

The compensation committee of the board of trustees utilizes this data to establish salary ranges for each position. TO MAXIMIZE THE POTENTIAL AND SELF-SUFFICIENCY OF ADULTS WHO SEEK COMMUNITY EMPLOYMENT, JVS OFFERS JOB SEARCH SUPPORT THAT INCLUDES SKILLS ASSESSMENT, JOB SEARCH ASSISTANCE, PLACEMENT AND TRAINING, AND ONGOING POST-EMPLOYMENT SUPPORT AND ADVOCACY. OTHERS BENEFIT FROM VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES THAT PROMOTE PERSONAL GROWTH, SKILL RETENTION AND COMMUNITY INCLUSION. II. THE CHOICES PROGRAM IS AN ADULT DAY PROGRAM FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES, SOME OF WHOM ALSO HAVE ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE OR RELATED MEMORY DISORDERS. CHOICES HAS FOUR SEPARATE SERVICE OFFERINGS WHICH ARE TAILORED TO EACH INDIVIDUAL'S NEEDS. SERVICES INCLUDE COMMUNITY AND FACILITY BASED ACTIVITIES THAT SUPPORT SELF-ADVOCACY, SKILL ENHANCEMENT, SOCIALIZATION, EXERCISE, AND COMMUNITY INCLUSION. III. BRIDGES AND LEARNING INNOVATIONS FOR ENRICHMENT (LIFE) PROGRAMS PROVIDE SUPPORTS COORDINATION AND PERSONALIZED PLANNING AND BUDGETING TO HELP INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES LIVE THE LIFE OF THEIR CHOOSING. IV. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH UNITED WAY OF SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN, JVS' BRIDGING THE GAP PROGRAM HELPS PEOPLE WHO ARE HOMELESS. JVS PROVIDES VOCATIONAL COUNSELING, JOB READINESS TRAINING, INTERNSHIPS, JOB PLACEMENT AND REFERRALS TO APPROPRIATE RESOURCES SUCH AS SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELING TO HELP THESE INDIVIDUALS ACHIEVE SELF-SUFFICIENCY.V. JVS WORKS CLOSELY WITH MICHIGAN REHABILITATION SERVICES AND OTHER AGENCIES TO PROVIDE A FULL SPECTRUM OF SERVICES TO HELP INDIVIDUALS WITH COGNITIVE, PHYSICAL AND/OR EMOTIONAL DISABILITIES MAXIMIZE THEIR PERSONAL INDEPENDENCE AND INTEGRATION INTO THE COMMUNITY. JVS' ARRAY OF REHABILITATION SERVICES HELPS INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES TO IDENTIFY AND OVERCOME BARRIERS TO EMPLOYMENT, DEVELOP THEIR VOCATIONAL STRENGTHS AND SET REALISTIC GOALS. PARTICIPANTS IN THESE PROGRAMS BENEFIT FROM PAID INTERNSHIPS, JOB DEVELOPMENT, JOB COACHING, TRAINING AND JOB RETENTION SERVICES. THROUGH ITS JANITORIAL TRAINING PROGRAM (JTP) WHICH OFFERS JANITORIAL SKILLS TRAINING, CLASSROOM AND HANDS-ON WORK EXPERIENCES, JOB SEEKING SKILLS TRAINING AND JOB PLACEMENT, INDIVIDUALS INCREASE OPPORTUNITIES TO OBTAIN AND RETAIN COMPETITIVE EMPLOYMENT. INDIVIDUALS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL AND/OR EMOTIONAL DISABILITIES AND POSSIBLY SECONDARY DISABILITIES ARE SERVED BY JVS' SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM. JVS STAFF PROVIDE ON-THE-JOB TRAINING AND SUPERVISION. VI. TRI-COUNTY DENTAL HEALTH PROVIDES REFERRALS TO VOLUNTEER DENTISTS WHO WILL TREAT AREA LOW INCOME RESIDENTS (WHETHER WITH DISABILITIES OR NOT) WHO HAVE MEDICAID, DO NOT HAVE INSURANCE, LACK ACCESS TO DENTAL CARE, OR CANNOT AFFORD EMERGENCY CARE.VII. YOUNG ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES RECEIVE TRAINING, SUPPORT AND COUNSELING THROUGH VARIOUS JVS PROGRAMS. SUMMER LINKUP PROVIDES RECREATIONAL AND PAID INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AND TEACHES DAILY LIVING SKILLS. SCHOOL-TO-WORK TRANSITION PROGRAMS HELP STUDENTS MAKE A SUCCESSFUL TRANSITION TO WORK, TECHNICAL TRAINING PROGRAMS OR COLLEGE. JVS GUIDES YOUNG PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES THROUGH INTERNSHIPS AND JOB SHADOWING EXPERIENCES WHERE THEY CAN EXPLORE A VARIETY OF CAREERS TO HELP DETERMINE THEIR LIFE PATHS. |
