Activity 2

Caf offers exhibitions and public programs on the subject of architecture and the built environment. In 2012, more than 160,000 people saw our exhibitions and a total of 6,075 people attended public programs on subjects such as sustainability, preservation, planning and design. There were more than 60 programs offered in 2012 and of these programs, atleast 40 were free (67%). Caf continued to develop the neighborhood voices program, which engages residents in chicago's neighborhoods in creating tours that promote their communities. The second annual open house chicago weekend attracted new audiences to caf who were enticed by free, behind the scenes public access to more than 193 unique locations across 12 chicago neighborhoods and downtown. Nearly 40,000 people attended from every u.s. State and 56 countries. 86% of attendees were residents of the chicago metropolitan region and 50% of all attendees were entirely new to caf.

Activity 3

The caf youth initiatives and caf teen programs provide programming and tours on the subject of architecture and the built environment, covering curriculum subjects of science, math and art, for k-12 students and teachers. Caf directly served 6,382 students and teachers through field trips, workshops, competitions and presentations, and indirectly served 38,658 students through printed and online curricula for a total reach of 45,040 people. 2012 was the 30th year of the newhouse architecture & design competition, engaging 22 chicago area schools and 697 students. 12 students received paid internships to chicago architecture and contruction firms. 6 students experienced taliesin, an intensive weeklong architectural studio program at the frank lloyd wright school of architecture.
