Activity 2

Caf offers exhibitions and public programs on the subject of architecture and the built environment. In 2011, approximately 159,000 people saw our exhibitions and a total of 6,651 people attended public programs on subjects such as sustainability, preservation, planning and design. There were 87 programs offered in 2011 and of the 87 programs, 40 were free (46%) and 47 fee-based (54%). Caf implemented a new two-year pilot program called neighborhood voices. The goal was to engage residents in chicago's neighborhoods in creating tours that promote their communities. The inaugural openhouse weekend attracted new audiences for caf who were enticed by free, behind the scenes public access to more than 130 unique locations in more than 16 chicago neighborhoods. Twenty-five thousand participants from all over chicago and the country participated in developing a broader awareness and appreciation of chicago's built environment.

Activity 3

The youth education department provides programming and tours on the subject of architecture and the built environment, covering curriculum subjects of science, math and art, for k-12 students and teachers. We conducted 196 events directly serving 12,363 students and teachers, and indirectly serving an additional 8,405, for a total reach of 20,768 in 2011. Attendance is broken down as follows: 116 field trips for 5,082 k-8 students from public, private, and parochial schools from chicago and the collar counties; 171 teachers attended six professional development workshops, and an additional 77 teachers attended pre-service and in-service workshops, for a total of 248 teachers participating in hands-on, built environment workshops.
