The mission of Uptown Players is to present professional theatre that meets a rising demand in the LGBTQ+ community for audiences to see their life experiences Represented on stage. Our diverse productions represent the LGBTQ+ community attitudes, mindsets and prospectives about their lives and current situation. We also provide the LGBTQ+ community an opportunity to examine itself and to develop confidence, self-awareness, and pride. We provide a safe place for LGBTQ+ patrons and their allies to fellowship, educate and entertain through plays and musicals that create a greater positive public awareness and acceptance through the performing arts.

Uptown Players also provided work for 13 local professional (union) actors/actresses and 7 stage managers. TACA's support in 2016 helped Uptown Players continue their tradition of high quality, innovative, and challenging theater. Uptown Players produced five mainstage shows during 2016: End of the Rainbow; Mothers and Sons; It's Only A Play; The Toxic Avenger Musical; and Angels In America.The theater has won over 25 Leon Rabin Awards from the Dallas Theatre League, several hundred The Column Awards and 23 Theater Critics Forum Awards in its first ten seasons. It has also been named the best theater company by the Dallas Voice Readers and by the Dallas Observer and additionally was featured in D Magazine and on the WFAA A-list theaters.The program service expenses were play production expenses. These expenses included theater rental, royalty payments, labor for cast, crew, directors, and designers, lighting, sound, sets, costumes, props, travel, and ticketing expenditures.Uptown Players received support via donated services from the following sponsors:Cooper Smith Agency donated public relation services to Uptown Players in 2016 in the amount of $2,500. These services included review of press releases and dissemination of press releases to media outlets. It also included coordination of press ticket requests for reviewers/critics and requests from media outlets for cast/writer/director interviews for press articles.The Dallas Voice provided two complimentary ads, free production card insertion into the newspaper, and two complimentary upgrades to color ads valued at $3,600.Uptown Players, Inc. productions are also supported by volunteers who help provide labor in various capacities in support of the theater. |
