Additional Explanations

FORM 990, PART XII, LINE 2C:

The process has not changed from the prior year.

Form 990, Part III Line 1

Since 1975, people's resource center (prc) has been bringing neighbors together to respond to hunger and poverty in dupage county. With a team of over 2,000 volunteers, prc offers nutritious food and basic necessities like clothes and rent assistance for people facing tough times. In addition, prc helps to connect people with empowerment programs in an effort to create a future of hope and opportunity for all. Today, more than 32,000 dupage neighbors who are in need, rely on the prc for assistance each year. Clients of prc are welcomed to visit prc's wheaton and westmont locations as well as more than 30 community partner sites across dupage county where programs are offered. Prc's service areas help clients meet their basic needs and include: * emergency food; * clothing; * homelessness prevention assistance; and * financial assistance. Prc's empowerment programs encompass the following areas: * literacy classes & tutoring (i.e. English as a second language program, citizenship study classes); * computer training; * computer refurbishment; * job training (i.e. Coaching, resume review, and job search); * art enrichment; and * youth summer science camps these programs are offered to all ages with the exception of classes notated by 1. The classes described with 1 are for children only and include interaction with their parents throughout the session. The aforementioned services and programs comprehensively meet prc's mission statement: people's resource center community exists to respond to basic human needs, promote dignity and justice, and create a future of hope and opportunity for the residents of dupage county, illinois through discovering and sharing personal and community resources. In order to accomplish this mission, prc has adopted and encompasses the following values as part of its operations: * dignity and respect: we recognize the dignity of each person who comes to us and we create a welcoming and respectful environment in all of our programs and communications. * creative and innovative: we express our mission directly. We try things in the community. We are willing to jump in to new areas in order to address an unmet need. * responsible stewards: we welcome those who need resources, as well as those with resources to share. * compassionate: we listen; we encourage; we try to get to know our families; we provide some help and guidance; we advocate; all in a spirit of kindness and compassion. * integrity: we place a high priority in living out our principles in our relationships, programs, and organizational practices. * we rely on miracles!! We know that we cannot do it alone. We rely on each other and our friends in the community. Suburban poverty continues to rapidly increase at an alarming rate while poverty in the city of chicago has held steady over the past 2015 fiscal year (fy15). According to the "poverty matters" report, suburban poverty increased by 95% between 1990 and 2011. In 1990, 66% of chicago's poor lived in the city, and 34% lived in the suburbs, but it is now a 50/50 split. The federal poverty level is defined as annual income below $24,250 for a family of four (4). The "working poor" have a slightly higher income and accounts for 173,451 dupage residents who struggle to make ends meet with annual household incomes below $48,500 for a family of four. Even with the best laid plans, for these families, financial stability can quickly change when an unexpected expense such as a car repair or emergency room visit occurs. More now than ever, prc is an essential component in the lives of the "working poor." low wage workers have an increased reliability on prc's food pantry to help put food on their tables and in their children's backpacks. Subsequently, the county's most vulnerable citizens such as the aging population and people living with disabilities that are on fixed and limited incomes are increasing their need for the as a leader, prc's responsibility is to help neighbors in need find the res

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

Prc files informational returns in the u.s. Federal jurisdiction and illinois. With a few exceptions, prc is no longer subject to u.s. Federal, state and local, or non-u.s. Income tax examinations by tax authorities for years before 2011. Prc does not expect a material net change in unrecognized tax benefits in the next twelve months.
