Neighbors helping neighbors 24,824 individuals served 2,641 neighbors volunteered 99,089 hours our tagline truly does say it all - neighbors helping neighbors. In 1975, people's resource center was started by a group of concerned residents who wanted to help their neighbors struggling with hunger. They handed out bags of groceries through the basement window of a house in wheaton. Today, we provide food and so much more. Our guests walk through our food pantries and select their own fresh produce, lean proteins and nutritious grains. They can stop in twice each month and choose the foods that work for their family tastes and lifestyle. Guests can also connect to prc services including computer training and access, social services, clothing, job search help, art programs and literacy tutoring. All prc services are provided at no cost to dupage county residents. Prc regularly serves those considered low and very low income, including the "working poor" residents of dupage county, and those who are aged or disabled with fixed incomes. Our impact is made possible by the generous support of the community, through volunteering, in-kind donations and financial support. Prc is in a unique position to connect neighbors with help. We often meet people who are in crisis. They may be trying to cope with a job loss or health problems. In these moments, our focus is to take care of their immediate needs, including food, clothing and housing. Emergency services food pantry food carts | birthday bags | layettes social services homeless prevention | financial assistance clothes closet clothing | shoes | coats as we build relationships, we connect neighbors to other ways prc can help. Empowerment services are delivered with community volunteers, including job coaches, computer teachers, literacy tutors and art instructors. Our dedicated team of volunteers forms our foundation of service. Over the coming year, we will continue to assist neighbors in need with vital services and enriching programs which help them respond to needs today, and strengthen futures for tomorrow. People's resource center community exists to respond to basic human needs, promote dignity and justice, and create a future of hope and opportunity for the residents of dupage county, illinois through discovering and sharing personal and community resources.
