Activity 2

Clean transportation: the partnership with the u.s. Department of energys clean cities program is the cornerstone of edc's clean transportation program. The goal of this program is to reduce petroleum consumption, thus reducing regulated pollutants (particularly nitrogen oxide and particulate emissions by reducing for mobile sources, including passenger vehicles, truck, transit and off-road vehicles. This is accomplished through promoting alternative fuel vehicles, advanced vehicle technologies, vehicle efficiency, mass transit, idle reduction practices & technologies and bike-friendly, walkable communities. Complementary activity to clean cities work is participation in the cleveland industrial air pollution advisory committee, the cuyahoga county local emergency planning commission and a number of collaborative efforts around air quality and climate change.

Activity 3

Neighborhood action is edc's environmental justice work and primarily collaborates with community groups and organizations to improve local air quality and encourage sustainable land use through citizen engagement, education and planning. Neighborbood action serves as an advisory clearinghouse for our neighbors and addresses life and health impacts of point source pollutants (particle emissions, ground-level ozone, mercury and lead). Activities in this program include education sessions on engaging public officials and leading effective public meetings, the quarterly environmental roundtable discussing local environmental issues in the news and the highly successful naturehood projects (restoring abandoned residential properties with native gardens).
