“Litter control, graffiti eradication and illegal dumping removal as of december 1, 2021, 2,959 bags of litter were removed from city streets, expressways, parks, and roadsides, 54 illegal dumps were remediated, and 19 graffiti sites were abated. Keep akron beautiful takes pride in knowing the impact we have on our community, especially throughout the covid-19 pandemic. Maybe you noticed akron is dirtier than ever, this year. Did you know keep akron beautiful is the only entity in akron focused on picking up litter? We are short staffed just like everyone else- and could use help with volunteer litter cleanups. Every year, keep akron beautiful loans out our community pride trailer & litter and illegal dump cleanup trailer to community groups and neighborhoods alike. Through various donations to the program, we are able to help neighbors remove litter, plant flowers, and install playgrounds. During clean up akron this spring, 700 volunteers removed 500 bags of litter from public land- just over 3.15 tons, which is equivalent to the weight of a white rhinoceros recycling program for twelve weeks, this summer, keep akron beautiful worked alongside the city of akron sanitation & recycling division as part of the grant-funded recycling campaign: recycle right. In 2019, our contamination rate was at an all-time high of 39%, reduced now to 20%, in 2021, we are helping to keep food, liquid, and plastic bags out of akron's curbside carts. Helping children to adopt "green" habits at a younger age is an investment they will pass onto their parents, families, and friends. Our recycling inspectors helped reduce contamination this summer by checking akron's recycling bins. Urban beautification in 2021, the flowerscape crew planted 10,000 plants at 19 sites in parks, boulevards and on traffic islands which are in season five months of the year additionally, keep akron beautiful volunteers adopted 54 volunteer adopt-a-sites throughout the city.”
