Cal's finance committee which includes the treasurer, members of the board of directors, and management assume responsibility for the oversight of the annual audit which is prepared by an independent accountant.

Financial Statement Notes

PART V, LINE 4:

Cal's endowment includes amounts from donors and set aside by board members to support the future operating activities of cal's mission.

PART X, LINE 2:

Cal follows the provisions of "accounting for uncertainty in income taxes" which prescribes a recognition threshold and a measurement attribute for the financial statement recognition and measurement of tax positions taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. For those benefits to be recognized, a tax position must be more-likely-than-not to be sustained upon examination by taxing authorities. The amount recognized is measured as the amount of benefit that is greater than 50% likely of being realized upon ultimate settlement. Cal recognizes interest and penalties accrued related to unrecognized tax uncertainties in income tax expense, if any. Cal determined that there are no material uncertain tax positions.

SINCE MOVING TO UNIVERSITY CIRCLE IN 2017, CAL HAS BEEN INTENTIONAL IN DEEPENING OUR IMPACT IN HIGH POVERTY NEIGHBORHOODS IN CLEVELAND INCLUDING GLENVILLE AND HOUGH. IN ADDITION TO IN-SCHOOL PROGRAMS, CAL TEACHING ARTISTS WORKED IN OUT-OF-SCHOOL SETTINGS SUCH AS STUDIO 105@THE GLENVILLE ARTS CAMPUS AND CLEVELAND RECREATION CENTERS. MOST SIGNIFICANTLY, CAL IMPLEMENTED PLAY IT FORWARD! CLEVELAND, A MUSIC PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES FREE INSTRUMENTS AND LESSONS FOR GRADES 6 TO 12 YOUTH IN THE CITY OF CLEVELAND REACHING CLOSE TO 65 STUDENTS WITH FREE TWICE WEEKLY LESSONS AND VIOLINS, DRUMS, AND GUITARS. SINCE THE EARLY MONTHS OF THE 2020 GLOBAL PANDEMIC, CAL BEGAN PRESENTING MUSIC, DANCE, THEATER, LITERARY ARTS, VISUAL ARTS AND DIGITAL ARTS PROGRAMS IN VIRTUAL FORMATS FOR YOUTH AND FAMILIES. CHILDEN WERE ABLE TO STAY ENGAGED IN THEIR LEARNING THROUGH THE INTEGRATION OF ART INTO DAILY ONLINE SCHOOL LESSONS. CAL INITIALLY PROVIDED THESE OFFERINGS FREE TO THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY.
