Changes to governing documents: cal amended the code of regulations during 2020 which identified the immediate past chair as an official officer of the organization and member of the executive committee. Also. The executive staff is identified as the president and ceo, previously the executive director.

The form 990 is prepared by an independent cpa firm, reviewed by management and the finance committee. The board is provided a copy of the final version of the form prior to filing.

Annual conflict of interest statements are completed and signed by each director, officer, and key employee. All known potential conflicts are listed and shared with the board of directors. Should a decision come to the board involving one of the stated conflicts, the individual will follow the written conflict of interest policy and disclose his or her conflict, provide any information desired by the board, and recuse him or herself from the meeting for the deliberations and the vote on the matter involving the conflict.

Cal's finance committee which includes the treasurer, members of the board of directors, and management assume responsibility for the oversight of the annual audit which is prepared by an independent accountant.

Financial Statement Notes

PART V, LINE 4:

Cal's endowment includes amounts from donors and set aside by board members to support the future operating activities of cal's mission.

PART X, LINE 2:

Cal follows the provisions of "accounting for uncertainty in income taxes" which prescribes a recognition threshold and a measurement attribute for the financial statement recognition and measurement of tax positions taken or expected to be taken in a tax return. For those benefits to be recognized, a tax position must be more-likely-than-not to be sustained upon examination by taxing authorities. The amount recognized is measured as the amount of benefit that is greater than 50% likely of being realized upon ultimate settlement. Cal recognizes interest and penalties accrued related to unrecognized tax uncertainties in income tax expense, if any. Cal determined that there are no material uncertain tax positions.

SINCE MOVING TO UNIVERSITY CIRCLE IN 2017, CAL HAS BEEN INTENTIONAL IN DEEPENING OUR IMPACT IN HIGH POVERTY NEIGHBORHOODS IN CLEVELAND INCLUDING GLENVILLE AND HOUGH. MOST SIGNIFICANTLY, CAL IMPLEMENTED PLAY IT FORWARD! DURING THE EARLY MONTHS OF THE 2020 GLOBAL PANDEMIC, CAL BEGAN PRESENTING MUSIC, DANCE, THEATER, LITERARY ARTS, VISUAL ARTS AND DIGITAL ARTS PROGRAMS IN VIRTUAL FORMATS FOR YOUTH AND FAMILIES.
