| PetSave Foundation has continued to fulfill its primary mission by rescuing, spaying/neutering, caring for and adopting out abandoned rabbits to new homes. On average, we cared for 100 rabbits within our foster system during 2016. We supplement our income by selling quality animal food, supplies and animal toys to people who adopt from us. We also offer boarding services to rabbit owners as a source of income. We still honor our contractual agreement with previous adopters who change their minds and return the previously adopted rabbits. On occasion we can take in a rabbit from a Good Samaritan who finds a rabbit whose previous owners have abandoned it in an inappropriate situation. For years, there has been an ever increasing population of domestic rabbits that are dumped and continued to reproduce. A group of volunteers took four years and eventually caught and placed all of the rabbits. When a single rabbit is dumped there now, we take that one in so that the population does not blossom again.Overall, our population was about the same at the end of 2016. Any space created by reducing our numbers is used on occasion to house rabbits that are rescued from high kill shelters, or other hazardous situations, but have somewhere else to go. This may be a shelter, rescue organization or sanctuary in another state and is a good way to help these rabbits without assuming long term responsibility for them. Our Foundation continues to provide information and education to prospective pet owners and the general public. We conduct educational tours to groups, focusing our attention on youth groups, such as Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and associations of home-schooled children and their parents. Visiting our facility provides an effective visual association with the magnitude of the rabbit overpopulation problem that exists as well as the viability of keeping rabbits as indoor pets.During educational tours, we stress the responsibility and commitment necessary before, during and after acquiring any pet. We stress proper care, spay/neutering as pet owner responsibilities and rabbit specific information. We strongly advocate adoption as a better option to purchasing from pet shops and breeders who in our opinion are part of the cause of pet overpopulation. We continue to be a very popular place for high school and college students to volunteer. Some of these students are required to complete a certain number of hours as part of a school curriculum. For those who prefer to work with animals, we provide a unique opportunity for them because often the municipal shelters that mainly house dogs and cats have age requirements that would prevent them from accepting the help of these willing young volunteers. We are happy to make them welcome and to be a positive first volunteer experience for them.Of course, during their volunteer time with us, these young people get an education about respect for animals, the necessity of spaying/neutering their pets, the advantages of adopting vs. purchasing and an overall lesson regarding the scope of the pet overpopulation. We hope to influence the next generation to accept spay/neuter as a basic necessity as well as the value of volunteering as a way of life.We have a long time volunteer that takes care of the rabbits at the Petco store in Santa Clarita, California and has been doing so for many years. She has created a network of contacts in that area and helps local residents with a variety of rabbit issues. In essence, she has become a satellite offshoot of PetSave Foundation, sharing resources whenever feasible while still using our adoption and placement criteria. This is outside of our immediate area, so it is a good way of enhancing our area of effectiveness. We continue to explore any and all options for funding, while being always mindful of frugality in our mission spending. We continue to rely on volunteers for most of our labor. In fact, the local Community College provides us with so many volunteers from their Human Development department, that we have a need for only one part-time employee who coordinates the volunteer's time with us. This is immensely helpful in keeping our operating costs as minimal as possible. In closing, we continue to maintain a clean and orderly facility, thus making the idea of rabbit ownership appealing to the public. We continue to help persons with domestic rabbit problems in many areas whenever possible to the best of our abilities and with the best use of available resources in order to reduce the incidence of abandonment and euthanasia. | $64,903 | - |

“Client Note 1 - Mission Statements and Objectives:PetSave Foundation's primary goal is to rescue domesticated rabbits that are routinely abandoned in numbers greater than are generally known. Domesticated rabbits are the third most purchased pets and their abandonment rate is proportionate. Because most rabbits are first purchased on impulse by their original owners, the lack of basic care information possessed by the general public contributes to their eventual abandonment.Once rescued from a variety of perilous situations, all rabbits are given a complete veterinary check up and any remedial medical treatment necessary. All rabbits are spayed/neutered prior to being put up for adoption. All rabbits in our care are given the best in food, housing, veterinary care and personal attention possible.PetSave Foundation's secondary goal is to educate the general public choosing to become pet rabbit owners.Pet rabbit owners are educated in the following areas: Proper care, housing and health information; The need to spay/neuter not only rabbits, but all pets in an effort to stem the tide of pet overpopulation; Providing any information that will help the pet/guardian relationship work in a way that provides a lifelong, loving home for the pet; Teaching and preparing the prospective rabbit pet owners as to specific care and potential needs of the rabbits, and effects on the owners. Our efforts to educate the general public include, but are not limited to, the following: Daily interactions with the public at our seven day per week adoption center where we make every opportunity to discuss the above issues; We field many daily calls from the public, answering questions about the above issues, as well as adoption referrals for pets and assistance with "found" animals; We offer group tours of our adoption facility, presenting an educational offering of information during the tours; We go to schools and talk to children about responsible pet ownership; We provide volunteer opportunities to further enhance the human/pet bond.”
