“Working collaboratively to create environments where breastfeeding is valued and supported to achieve natural infant feeding equity in all minnesota communities.”
“Span grant provides administrative oversight of 10-steps learning collaborative in establishing baby friendly designation of hospitals. Objectives are to provide clear and concise guidelines for participating facilities, support through the press and acknowledgement of accomplishments.”
“Ramsey co-ship grant serves two local coalitions: twin cities regional and hmong breastfeeding coalitions. The objectives are to support the growth of two local coalitions, provide administrative management and fiscal support to professionals in each.”
“The 10 step learning collaborative recruited and supported hospitals and birthing centers to implement any or all of the world health organizations (who) 10 steps to successful breastfeeding. Progress towards this was measured by achievement of stars (1 star equals 2 steps) of mdhs breastfeeding friendly birthing (formerly maternity) center (bfbc). As the who revised and updated 10 step requirements, the mdhs program was also updated to reflect some of these changes. Twenty-one organizations completed the mdhs intent to apply for this recognition work, yet leadership at these entities were challenged to progress with this work due to many competing priorities. Hospitals and birth centers were recruited to participate in the collaborative as much as they were able. Mbc program director facilitated monthly collaborative meetings on zoom and met 1:1 with key leaders within entities as a consultant and technical assistant on how the organization could facilitate work towards achieving stars, improving infant feeding practices and promoting health equity. This provided an opportunity for networking, sharing of successes, challenges, and discussion of current literature amongst the participants. Six organizations have achieved between 1-5 stars.”
“Remaining program accomplishments include those related to the next-gen program and wic funds. Next gen lactation fosters an inclusive lactation workforce representative of minnesotas diversity. Wic emphasizes the importance of breastfeeding with pregnant and new parents and provides resources to help wic families reach their breastfeeding goals.”
“Minnesota breastfeeding coalition provided a complete copy of this form 990ez and schedules to all members of its governing body before filing the form. The process that the organization used to review the form was as follows and occurred through e-mail review during early november 2024: 1) discussed who participated in the process and how each participated, 2) explained mn state or local legal mandates requiring the board to approve form 990 (and noted absence of such mandates under federal law), 3) focused attention on organizational policies and disclosure of board members' names/compensation, 4) noted any areas of sensitivity, 5) did a careful read of filer's largest program arenas by expenditure, 6) discussed how form 990-ez is open to public disclosure (guidestar) and if they wanted any confidential donor contact information redacted from the public version of schedule b, and 7) highlighted any changes or departures from positions taken on prior year's form 990-ez.”
