Mission

The organizations mission is to alleviate poverty improve health and contribute to environmentally sustainable development particularly in under-served areas in the Philippines and other developing countries.

The primary purpose of PFPI is to undertake and or assist in the a assessment identification and development and field-testing of technologies related to health family planning natural resource management biodiversity conservation and environment; b development of communication strategies appropriate for the introduction and adaptation of related technologies; c design and dissemination of information and data to generate public awareness of the need benefits and the availability of health and family planning natural resources management and related technologies; and d design and implement evidence- based gender sensitive and cross-disciplinary initiatives in population health and environment.

| Description:, Expense Amount:, Grants Amount:, Revenue Amount:| FISH Right Project: The USAID Fish Right Program is a partnership between the Government of the Philippines and the United States Government through the U.S. Agency for International Development USAID to influence system change within the fisheries sector by improving resource user compliance with agreed upon fisheries practices resulting in reduced threats and increased fish biomass. The program initially focused on three marine key biodiversity areas MKBA Visayan Seas South Negros and the Calamianes Island Group CIG and expanded on its fourth year to cover the West Philippine Sea WPS. The Fish Right Program is implemented by the University of Rhode Island URI in collaboration with a team of core implementing partners PATH Foundation Philippines Inc. leads the implementation in CIG FMA 5 and 6. The Fish Right Program focuses on several threats to biodiversity namely: overfishing destructive and illegal fishing and degradation of coastal and marine ecosystems. The primary beneficiaries include the municipal and commercial fisherfolk and their families provincial and municipal governments and community organizations including fishing associations cooperatives and womens associations. The overarching goal of the Program is to address threats to coastal and marine biodiversity by reducing overfishing destructive and illegal fishing and degradation of marine ecosystems. The Program does this by catalyzing systemic actions within the fisheries sector increasing the capacity of the national regional and local government to implement ecosystem fisheries management foster fisheries ecosystem stewardship and addressing the issue of illegal unreported and unregulated IUU fishing resulting in reduced threats to biodiversity and increased fish biomass of key species in targeted geographical areas. In 2023 the following are PFPIs key accomplishments:, $500650, $18003, $0| Continuation: Towards institutional capacity development for consensus-building and strengthening implementation of FMAs improving management of marine protected areas in FMA 5 the Program assisted NSAP in refining the harvest strategy engaged fish catch enumerators to continue to collect data in select areas in support of the development of a sustainable harvest strategy for Rounds cad species. The IUU fishing assessment using the IUU Fishing Index Tool IFIT for commercial and municipal fishing was facilitated in Palawan and completed the I-FIT roll out in Regions 3 and 4A Cavite. The IFIT Assessment and Reduction plans of 4 LGUs in CIG were updated. The SAG and TWG were also capacitated to prepare the harvest strategy for adoption by the FMA 5 Management Board. The Program also assisted in the formation of the SPARKQ San Vicente San Vicente Puerto Princesa City Aborlan Rizal and Quezon MPA Network in Palawan and the passage of the Busuanga Coron Culion Linapacan BCCL resolution allocating for PhP 200K per LGU for FY 2024 to implement the BCCL-Coastal and Fisheries Management Alliance CFMA. On capacity building for resource users to enhance participation and representation in FMA Plan implementation the Program facilitated safety training for 49 boat captains and motormen the renewal of MARINA certificates for 36 commercial fishing vessels CFVs and processing of new registration for 8 CFVs in Subic and Mariveles Bataan including boat inspections for safety compliance. Also trained 20 Peer educators fishers women and youth in Balabac and trained 15 participants from various organizations to improve fish catch monitoring., $0, $0, $0| Continuation: On enhancement of opportunities for fishing communities through responsible seafood sourcing to support FMA Plan implementation the Program assisted the Calamianes Seaweed Marketing Cooperative to access 15M worth of funding from Philippine Rural Development Project.
