IRS990/Desc0University of Rhode Island (FISH Right Project): The USAID Fish Right Program is a five year (2018-2022) program and a partnership between the Government of the Philippines and the United States Government through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to influence system change within the fisheries sector by improving resource user compliance with agreed upon fisheries practices resulting in increased fish biomass in the three marine key biodiversity areas (MKBA). The program is implemented in three marine key biodiversity areas namely Calamianes Island group, Southern Negros and Visayan Sea. In 2020, the following are key accomplishments of the project: a) Facilitated the updating and passage of the Coron Fisheries Ordinance to incorporate harvest control measures on Siganids. b) Supported various ecological assessments for proposed women managed areas in the Calamianes Island Group. c) Initiated the gender and fisheries certification program anchored on the principle that building the capacity of women and men leaders, manager, decision makers will improve management efficiencies specially in fisheries management. d) Supported the passage of an indigenous Peoples Resolution in Calauit, Busuanga declaring more than 100 Ha of ancestral waters as women managed area to protect and manage a a bivalve- the Cachipay. e) Developed the Gender Mainstreaming tool for Fisheries to assess the Gender-responsiveness of the project activities. f) Served as a technical working group member and a signatory of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to develop and implement a Financial Literacy program for fishers with Banco De Oro Foundation, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and other Fish Right partners. g) Trained 56 peer educators on leadership modules who in turn recruited and oriented 58 new Eco-Warriors and have reached 1,791 peers and other individuals through peer education. h) Developed and produced information education and communication materials such as infographics, text blast messages, Banyuhay e-newsletter, etc. conveying marine biodiversity conservation and health-related (COVID-19 prevention) messages reaching about 127,000 individuals. i) Four (4) Local Government Units (LGU) in the Calamianes Island Group (CIG) i.e. Busuanga, Coron, Culion and Linapacan signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to put in effect the five (5) year CIG Integrated Fisheries Resource Management Plan. j) Completed the vulnerability assessments and validation Busuanga and Linapacan marine protected areas.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) provided PATH Foundation Philippines Inc. financial grant to increase local government and community management capacity to conserve biodiversity of coral reef and ecosystems in six marine protected areas along the Verde Island Passage in the Philippines. The Project will enhance marine protected area planning and zoning, reduce conflicts of use of ocean spaces to address the growing population and demand for local resources, and provide conservation based economic incentives to reduce unsustainable fishing practices. The Project entitled Enhancing Community Management Capacity to Improve Coral Reef Ecosystem Health in the Philippines covering from November 1, 2018 to March 31, 2020. In 2020, PFPI consolidated information, prepared and submitted final report to donor and conducted turn over activities to the Local Government Units (LGUs).
