Determine the strengths and weaknesses of the district through focus group meetings and decide which options provide the most benefits for the community and the school district, 5. Building a stronger staples community that will enrich the quality of life now and for future generations, 6. Facilitate the citizens, city government, and businesses in staples to improve communication and planning and work together on projects.

Tourism - leap entered into an agreement with the city of staples to manage tourism dollars collected via a city lodging tax. After a tourism committee was appointed, a consultant was hired to market the staples area through billboards, the explore mn travel guide, the mn lodging association, and to provide content for a discover staples (discoverstaplesmn.org) website. In addition, regional promotions and local events were marketed.

Christmas in staples events were held including: breakfast with santa, elf shopping, kid's crafts, games, letters to santa, sleigh rides, hot chocolate bar, luminary walk,and more. Lights were purchased and structures constructed to create a north pole lights display.
