Mission

Our mission is to facilitate and enhance the employability of individuals seeking employment and employer access to a qualified workforce. We create a flow of ready and prepared potential workers; helping businesses envision and implement an alternative workplace.

Major Activities

Activity 2
Veterans' employment and training initiatives:the northern virginia elevate america for veterans initiative, funded through the microsoft corporation, provides veterans and eligible spouses with microsoft training vouchers to enhance their computer literacy, knowledge of microsoft office products and completion of select microsoft-related certifications. As of june 2013, 1,144 vouchers had been distributed. The jobs 4 veterans program through the u.s. Department of labor offers employment and training services to all honorably discharged veterans. Since november 2012, 88 have been enrolled with 68 in training and 27 placed into employment. The credentials to careers for veterans program through the virginia community college system offers training and employment services to dislocated veterans; since february 2012, 24 veterans have been enrolled and 9 are in training.
Activity 3
Virginia employment through entrepreneurship consortium (vetec):in june 2012, ssg was awarded $8.3 million by us department of labor (dol) for the virginia employment through entrepreneurship consortium (vetec), which seeks to integrate entrepreneurship services with the public workforce system. The goal is to enable jobseekers to grow assets and attain long-term self-sufficiency through self-employment. Ssg administers vetec in northern virginia and two other workforce areas in virginia. Vetec actually began services in late april 2013. As of june 2013, 28 individuals were enrolled in vetec and 19 were receiving services. This grant is funded through october 2016.

A RETURN ON INVESTMENT STUDY CONFIRMED THAT THE BENEFITS OF WIA PROGRAMS ARE NEARLY 3.5 GREATER THAN THE PROGRAM COSTS.
