“Supported establishment of buffer zones between encampments and parks, schools and residences supported the venice neighborhood council/o'farrell motion to provide buffer zones between encampments and parks, schools, school routes, child care centers and homeless shelters and housing, and to add 150-foot setbacks from residences, slightly greater setbacks from entrances/exits, and easier access for the disabled to sidewalks. Filed an amicus brief in the l.a. Alliance suit against the city and county of los angeles the vsa urged the court to order the city and county of los angeles to focus all temporary housing for the homeless on structures, buildings and tents that allow for ample and enforceable self-quarantine, due to the pandemic. Vsa attorney jeff lewis filed a complaint under the brown act, california's public meeting law, and common law, charging councilman mike bonin with violations of both laws. In comments proposing use of federal stimulus funds to purchase distressed properties to convert them to homeless housing, the councilman revealed both bias and that he had already gathered the city council to support this plan prior to public participation, a clear brown act violation. Supported penmar residents for return of jogging path rallied support for penmar residents' efforts to restore a half-mile long dirt jogging path on rose avenue next to the penmar golf course for public use. Supported neighborhood council motion to change state law allowing unfettered vote by venice residents on cityhood supported the vnc's call on the city of los angeles to initiate an effort to amend state law removing both the city council's veto of a venice cityhood initiative and the requirement that all of the voters of los angeles must approve venice de-annexation. Published an op/ed arguing for stricter rules on all contributions to elected officials' campaign funds, officer holder accounts, and even their charities the article argues that the city must curtail the ability of special interests especially property developers to give massive amounts of money to any committee controlled by a city elected official or even to respond to requests from politicians for donations to charitable organizations. Called upon the city to follow cdc guidance the vsa asked the city to enforce lamc 63.44 against tents and camping to stop the spread of covid 19 and new homeless encampments at venice beach, and return venice's beaches to their intended purpose of recreation and enjoyment by all residents and visitors. The vsa opposed sb 1120 the bill would have required local governments to allow for duplexes in what is currently single-family home zoning as a way to address the state's housing crisis. Under sb 1120, property owners could turn their houses into duplexes, or could divide up their lots and put two duplexes on the property, creating four homes where there was once one. Installed gates at the venice gondola enclosure the vsa installed gates at the gondola garden on the windward traffic circle to make the venice gondola more accessible to the public. Supported landscaping of the grand boulevard median islands the vsa supported the landscaping by neighbors of grand of the two median traffic islands at the intersection of grand blvd. And north venice blvd. Maintained 55 planter boxes to beautify sidewalks provided weekly maintenance for the 55 4'x10' planter boxes installed by residents and the vsa on all three sides of the venice post office, including watering, weeding, replacement of stolen plants, and removal of trash, debris and human and food waste at these locations. Continue to supervise permitting of 55 planter boxes initially, city officials had indicated that a permit for this project was not necessary. Later, when the city changed course and required a retroactive permit, vsa raised the funds for preparation of detailed drawings of the installation and for the application and permit fees. Vsa worked with the venice post office manage”
