“Pursued the vsa's lawsuit against the city and county for maintaining a public nuisance along venice beach late in 2015, the trial court judge reversed his initial ruling in our favor and granted the citys and countys motions for summary judgment to dismiss the case on the argument that they have complete discretion in exercising their police and prosecutorial powers; i.e., courts are prohibited from telling them to enforce any particular laws or ordinances. We filed an appeal in summer of 2016 and are waiting for the court to produce the case record and to call for our brief in response to the trial court judges ruling. Filed a legal challenge to westminster conversion early in the year, the vsa organized community opposition to the conversion of the westminster senior center to homeless storage. Later the vsa raised funds to retain the firm of luna and glushon, which filed a demand that the city obtain a project permit under the venice local coastal specific plan, a coastal development permit, and conduct a review under ceqa. Later, luna and glushon, on behalf the vsa, submitted to the city and city attorney a superior court order/deed restriction from the 1950 condemnation process for the westminster center that limits the site to playground and park uses. Questioned councilmans homeless questionnaire when the district's councilman claimed to have support from the results of a voluntary questionnaire of residents on the homeless crisis in venice for several initiatives, vsa published an article in yo venice outlining the faults in the surveys design and conclusions.
