“Supported the vsa lawsuit against the city of los angeles and county of los angeles for maintaining a dangerous public nuisance along the venice beach recreation area vsa continued to support and supervise our lawsuit with the objective of forcing the city and county to abate the public nuisance that they allowed to develop in the venice beach recreation area which constantly threatens residents with trespassing, burglaries, car break-ins, harassment, excessive noise, and public inebriation, urination and defecation. Over a 12 month period the vsa raised approximately 100,000 to pay the legal fees related to this case. Supported the beach curfew the vsa continued to support the city's beach curfew. Continued to chronicle home invasions and attacks by transients on venice residents these detailed reports, posted on venice update, yo venice, the vsa website and sent to city decision-makers and the media, graphically underscored the need for more police and actions to stop camping in venice by transients, who in too many instances are dangerous due to mental illness and/or drug addiction. Pressed for expansion of beach clean-ups in response to meetings with the vsa's president, the city's watershed protection division added weekly clean-ups of the first block of each walk street that terminates onto the venice boardwalk. Continued to educate city officials on the correct interpretation of court decisions and legal settlements regarding encampments on sidewalks and in parks partially in response to the opinion by vsa attorney john henning outlining how the city had overreacted to the "lavan decision," the city amended its sidewalks storage ordinance (56.11) and its parks storage ordinance (63.44) to tighten and limit what can be stored on sidewalks and what can be taken into any city park, including the venice beach recreation area. These amendments were adopted in final form in april, 2016. The vsa offered testimony and support to passage of the amendments and organized its members to email their support. Completed thinning of 21 italian stone pines around venice post office vsa secured a city permit and retained a licensed landscape firm to thin the 21 italian stone pines encircling the venice post office. The trees became quite dense and the city's urban forestry division indicated to vsa that they were in danger of being blown down during extreme wind conditions as expected during the el nino season. Vsa raised 5,000 for this project and supervised the landscape firm in carrying out the extensive thinning. Supported the lapd homeless task force donated 6,600 to the lapd homeless task force to fund bus fares home for homeless individuals, meal vouchers, and fees for in-patient drug rehabilitation and shelter beds.”
