“Smart student scholarship - the smart students choose new jersey scholarship and internship program is a program created for the highest academically ranked graduating seniors who choose a new jersey college or university for their post-secondary education. The program, which is being piloted at all high schools in newark and camden, offers a one-time $2,000 scholarship and the opportunity to participate in paid internships at participating nj companies for three consecutive summers during their college career. The scholarship and internship program was created in response to the rate at which new jersey's high school graduates are leaving the state for higher education. Statistics reveal that more than 30,000 graduating seniors leave new jersey for their post-secondary education each year and many never return. Thus, the purpose of the program is to encourage our most accomplished high school students to remain in new jersey for their post-secondary education and professional careers.”
