“PRIMARY EXEMPT PURPOSE - Team Run Flagstaff TRF is a nonprofit, 501c3 organization based in Flagstaff, Arizona whose mission is to introduce and support the running experience to people of all ability levels interests. Through organized training, expert coaching, educational workshops and events, the group cultivates an atmosphere that allows elite athletes and regular runners to share the same track, pursuing individual goals with a sense of camaraderie. Social events, race events and volunteer opportunities build an even stronger sense of community, health and fitness. Members of all abilities, ages and experience levels share their love of fitness, health and sport with group runs, cross training, track workouts, social events, and race and educational offerings that cover everything from trail safety to nutrition. “GENERAL INFORMATION - For its 12th and final year more below, Team Run Flagstaff continued to strive to keep its membership fees low and build strong support and sponsorship relationships with local businesses and foundations, while attempting to recover from the cancellations and disappointments associated with operating during the Covid 19 pandemic the year prior. In 2015, the organization began a sponsorship contract with UnderArmour, which provides TRF team members with running gear and continued through 2021 though no gear was distributed due to the pandemic. TRF also relied on the talents and services of dedicated volunteers, numbering approximately 10 in 2021 9 in 2020. The approximate value of these services is not reflected in the financial statements, including the donated services of the Head Coach and Executive Director from January - August 2021. The Board of Directors also serves as volunteers.”

“TRF COMMUNITY TUESDAY NIGHTS STEP-INTO-RUNNING THURSDAY NIGHTS - These programs are the heart and soul of Team Run Flagstaff TRF. Normally the 200 general members of TRF meet on Tuesday nights for an organized, coached track workout for runners of all abilities and experience levels. Members have historically also been invited four times during the year for exclusive offering programs, including topics such as strength training, flexibility, nutrition, footwear technology, and talks by national race winners and Olympic runners. Twice a year spring fall, TRF has historically offered a 6-week Step-Into-Running program specifically for new or returning runners/walkers on Thursday nights with coaching and support, that then concluded with a one-mile race, providing a culmination goal for the runners. For most of 2020, TRFs typical program offerings were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but the organization was able to resume its Tuesday night workouts in mid-2021. Step Into Running has not been resumed yet.”

“TRF YOUTH formerly Kids Run Flagstaff - This youth program, initiated in 2014, is for 5th through 12th graders. Its mission is to foster enthusiasm for a healthy lifestyle through running, regardless of ability or school affiliation, in a fun and encouraging environment. Youth participants normally meet twice weekly under the guidance of an experienced coach, assistant coaches and volunteers, and have the opportunity to train and participate in local, regional and national cross country, track and road racing events. The program typically has approximately 20 youth participants during the year, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this program was cancelled in 2020 and 2021, and was just contemplating a renewal in 2022, before the organization decided to dissolve more later.”

“RACE COMMUNITY EVENTS - The organization typically holds at least one public race event and several community events each year. The Downtown Mile, held annually on the 4th of July before the citys holiday parade and in partnership with the Greater Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce, was resumed in 2021, after cancellation in 2020 due to the Covid 19 pandemic. It normally hosts over 350 participants and includes a free kids dash. TRF also held another race event in 2021, the Sunnyside Up 5k race, with all proceeds going to the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association. Community events typically include the annual community picnic, an assortment of special offerings, a few social events and a large, family-friendly annual year-end celebration for TRF members all cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to pandemic safety precautions.”

“TRF PRO TEAM 0 direct program expenses in 2021 - The mission of the TRF Pro Team is to support and develop post-collegiate national- and world-class distance runners who train in Flagstaff, AZ a recognized, high-altitude training destination by assisting support, resources and expenses. In return, Pro Team members volunteer their time and talents back to the organization in their areas of expertise, including coaching, nutrition counseling, strength training and event planning. For 2021, TRF maintained its sponsorship of two pro athletes with the generous support of UnderArmour.”

“Effect of the Covid-19 Pandemic on the Organization - All aspects of TRF were affected by the ongoing pandemic, with all programs beginning 2021 in virtual status and many cancelled entirely for the year. The Executive Director, as well as the Head Coach volunteered to forgo their compensation for the first eight months of 2021. Membership fees were reduced by 25, but renewals have declined dramatically, and membership is currently lower than it has been for many years.”

“DISSOLUTION OF ORGANIZATION - In late 2021, after months of deliberation, the Board voted to dissolve the TRF 501c3 organization and hand over day-to-day operations to the local running store, Run Flagstaff, which is owned by Vince Sherry, a member of the TRF Board of Directors. It was decided that infusion of energy and talent from the for-profit store would be the best way to re-grow membership and provide the best services to our members. The Board also voted to distribute the remaining net assets of the nonprofit organization evenly between two other local non-profits, both with a running focus. They are Girls on the Run of Northern Arizona, and the Coconino Community College Track Club. The dissolution took place on 12/31/21, and the remaining net assets are expected to be distributed in 2022. A final Form 990EZ will be filed at that time.”
