Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The draft version of the federal form 990 is reviewed in detail by the audit and finance committee and is provided to all members of the board of directors before filing with the internal revenue service.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Officers and directors are required annually to sign a form that indicates that they have received the conflict of interest policy, read and understood the policy, and are in compliance with the policy. The forms are updated each year during the board of directors annual meeting (typically in october or november) and are reviewed at that time for any potential conflicts.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

An independent consultant was hired to provide benchmarking data for employee compensation and to assist the president & ceo in her internal equity assessment of atd's salary structure. The consultant was asked to provide benchmark data which included other non-profits. The consultant provided data to the board of directors for their determination of the salary for the president & ceo. The executive vice president and chief financial officer assisted with the data and recommendations for budgeted salary increases and thresholds for all other employees.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

Atd's federal form 990, financial statements, conflict of interest policy, and governing documents are available to public upon written request to the chief operating officer.

THAT THEME IS ATD BOTH DEEPENED ITS WORK IN ITS PROGRAM AREAS AS WELL AS WORKED TO BUILD CAPACITY INTERNALLY TO SUPPORT THE DEEPENING OF THE WORK WITH OUR NETWORK COLLEGES.ATD'S CORE MODEL OF EDUCATION REFORM IS A THREE YEAR EXPERIENCE IN WHICH COLLEGES EMBARK ON A JOURNEY OF TRANSFORMATION BASED ON ANALYZING SEVEN CORE CAPACITIES OF A COLLEGE'S INFRASTRUCTURE. LEADERSHIP AT THE UNIVERSITY IS MATCHED WITH ATD EXPERT DATA AND LEADERSHIP COACHES TO SYSTEMATICALLY ADDRESS GAPS IN THEIR INFRASTRUCTURE TO HELP PROPEL STUDENTS TO STUDENT SUCCESS. THROUGH A GRANT FROM THE WOODWARD HINES FOUNDATION TWO MISSISSIPPI SCHOOLS (MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND COAHOMA COMMUNITY COLLEGE) JOINED ATD'S COLLEGE NETWORK. THE SOUTHERN COUNCIL OF FOUNDATIONS FEATURED THE SUPERB WORK OF BOTH ATD AND MISSISSIPPI SCHOOL LEADERS IN THEIR VOLUME 27 ISSUE 2 ISSUE.THE KRESGE FOUNDATION HAS BEEN A LONGTIME SUPPORTER OF ATD'S MISSION. IN THIS MOST RECENT YEAR THEY SUPPORTED THREE ATD AREAS OF WORK - INTERNAL CAPACITY BUILDING, NETWORK PARTICIPATION, AND HOLISTIC STUDENT SUPPORTS. MORE SPECIFICALLY THE GRANT PROVIDED RESOURCES FOR FOUR NEW COLLEGES TO JOIN THE ATD NETWORK. SECONDLY, THEY SUPPORTED THE WORKING STUDENT SUCCESS NETWORK (WSSN) WHICH FOCUSED SUPPORTS TO HELP STUDENTS GAIN FINANCIAL SKILLS AND CAREER EXPERIENCE TO BOTH SUCCESSFULLY EARN CREDENTIALS AND FIND JOBS THAT PAY FAMILY-SUSTAINING WAGES. ACHIEVE MISSION WAS CONTRACTED TO WORK ON ATD'S INTERNAL CAPACITY FOR LEADERSHIP ENGAGEMENT WITH THE COLLEGES AND TO BUILD A TALENT PIPELINE FOR ATD INTERNALLY TO HELP ENHANCE THE SUSTAINABILITY OF THE ORGANIZATION TO DO WORK SUCH AS NETWORK ENGAGEMENT AND WSSN.OUR PARTNERSHIPS WITH FUNDERS SUCH AS THE BILL AND MELINDA GATES FOUNDATION FACILITATED BOTH CAPACITY BUILDING WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION AND EXTERNAL DEEPENING OF OUR PROGRAM WORK. CONTINUATION FUNDING OF OUR ENGAGING ADJUNCT FACULTY PROJECT FURTHERS OUR WORK IN BUILDING INSTITUTIONAL CAPACITY TO BETTER INTEGRATE AND ENGAGE THE ADJUNCT FACULTY MEMBERS INTO THE STUDENT SUCCESS PROCESS AND TO BETTER UNDERSTAND AND ADDRESS THE OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES FACED BY COLLEGES ENGAGING PART-TIME FACULTY (ELEMENTS OF THIS PROGRAM WERE ALSO SUPPORTED BY THE GREAT LAKES EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION). THE FOUNDATION ALSO SUPPORTED INTERNAL ATD CAPACITY BUILDING WHICH HELPED THE ORGANIZATION ALIGN AND OPERATIONALIZE ITS NEW STRATEGIC PLAN. ANOTHER SIGNIFICANT OUTCOME OF THE GATES FOUNDATION AND GREAT LAKES FOUNDATION FUNDING HAS BEEN ATD'S WORK WITH OPEN EDUCATION RESOURCES (OER). THE OPEN EDUCATION RESOURCES (OER) PROJECT INVOLVES 38 COMMUNITY COLLEGES IN 13 STATES AND IS DESIGNED TO HELP REMOVE FINANCIAL ROADBLOCKS THAT CAN DERAIL STUDENTS' PROGRESS AND TO SPUR OTHER CHANGES IN TEACHING AND LEARNING AND COURSE DESIGN THAT WILL INCREASE THE LIKELIHOOD OF DEGREE AND CERTIFICATE COMPLETION. COLLEGES AND SYSTEMS WERE SELECTED THROUGH A COMPETITIVE GRANT PROCESS BASED ON THEIR ABILITY AND CAPACITY TO IMPLEMENT OER DEGREE PROGRAMS, OFFER THE FULL COMPLEMENT OF DEGREE COURSES QUICKLY, OR QUICKLY SCALE THE NUMBER OF SECTIONS OFFERED.AS ANOTHER MAJOR SUPPORTER OF EDUCATION REFORM IN THE HIGHER EDUCATION SPACE GREAT LAKES FOUNDATION WORKED WITH ATD TO SUPPORT ITS ONBOARDING AND INTRODUCTION OF A COHORT OF TRIBAL UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES INTO THE ATD NETWORK. THE 30 PLUS TCUS ARE REPORTING VAST IMPROVEMENTS TO THEIR STUDENT SUCCESS STORIES AND THE OTHER NETWORK COLLEGES ARE LEARNING A GREAT DEAL FROM OUR KNOWLEDGE OF ENHANCING STUDENT EXPERIENCE BASED ON HOLISTIC SUPPORTS.AN INCREASINGLY IMPORTANT COMPONENT OF TH
