In addition, the foundation is revamping its website to further the awareness of the foundation's mission.”

Honoring Eileen Nicole Garrido, who was diagnosed with a complex heart condition shortly after her birth, and underwent three surgeries at Childrens Hospital to repair her heart and to give her a pulmonary valve. The organization made a grant to the Beating Hearts Foundation, which was formed by Eileen in 2009 to help children with cardiovascular illnesses, because every child deserves a healthy beating heart. The organization honored Eileen for her bravery and heart, recognizing that Eileen epitomizes the organizations mission by having transformed her only personal adversity into an opportunity to help other children with cardiovascular illnesses.Grant to Mending Kids. Honoring Paul Stanley, the chief songwriter of the rock band KISS, who transformed his own adversity in fighting microtia a birth defect consisting of a deformity of the outer ear which causes hearing loss by representing and raising funds for Mending Kids, a public charity which deploys teams of volunteer surgeons and recovery staff both in the United States and in developing countries to perform life-saving and/or life-changing surgeries free of charge to children with birth defects. Like Eileen, Paul was chosen as an honoree for his embodiment of the organizations mission by helping children throughout the world to overcome crippling or disabling birth defects in recognition of the help he was given to overcome his own birth defects. |
