THE CO-OP AS A GROUP RECEIVED ALL EARNINGS FROM THE GRANADA STORE. AT THE END OF 2014, DUE TO SOME ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGES WITHIN THE PULSERA PROJECT IN NICARAGUA, WE DECIDED TO CLOSE THE STORE. WE ALSO BID FAREWELL TO OUR FIRST NICARAGUAN DIRECTOR, AND HIRED A NEW DIRECTOR FOR 2015. THE BIG NEW PROJECT OF 2014 WAS THE INITIATION OF A HOUSING PROGRAM FOR ALL PULSERA ARTISANS. EVERY PULSERA MAKER IS ELIGIBLE FOR A HOUSING GRANT OF UP TO $2500 TO BE USED FOR LAND, BUILDING A HOUSE, OR IMPROVING AN EXISTING HOUSE. AT THE END OF 2014, A GROUP OF 20 ARTISANS JOINTLY BOUGHT LAND TO BE DIVIDED INTO SMALL HOUSING PLOTS. THIS IS AN EXCITING FIRST STEP, TO BE FOLLOWED BY ADDITIONAL GRANTS IN 2015. IRS990ScheduleF/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt0WE REQUIRE ORGANIZATIONS TO SPEND FUNDS AS PER OUR INSTRUCTIONS. IN MANY CASES, A BOARD MEMBER IS PRESENT WHEN FUNDS ARE SPENT. WHEN ONE OF US IS NOT PRESENT, WE REQUIRE RECEIPTS AND THEN WE PERSONALLY VERIFY THAT THOSE RECEIPTS MATCH THE EXPENDITURE. ONE OF US TRAVELS TO NICARAGUA AT LEAST 6 TIMES PER YEAR, AND DURING THOSE TRIPS WE VISIT WITH GRANT RECIPIENTS, REVIEW BOOKS, MEET WITH THE GROUP LEADERS. IF THE EXPENDITURE WAS FOR SOMETHING PHYSICAL, LIKE SCHOOL UNIFORMS OR BOOKS, WE REQUIRE THAT WE CAN SEE THE ACTUAL THING. IF THE EXPENDITURE WAS FOR SOMETING LIKE SCHOLARSHIPS, WE REQUIRE THAT WE SEE TRANSCRIPTS OR THE EQUIVALENT.
