Form 990-ez, Part III, Line 28

Accomplishment: africa windmill project (awp) supports area villages, ministries within the government, and local organizations within the country of malawi. A majority of our trainings focus on food security and garden management. We focus on education in garden preparation, planting, fertilizing, weeding, pest control, proper irrigation, and harvesting. We also offer training in farm management and planning field-to-market opportunities with farmers. 16 new windmills were installed and 202 new irrigation pumps were distributed during 2020. Key performance indicators: farmers that have implemented irrigation agriculture are food secure. Farmers are completely self-sufficient (not relying on outside aid for inputs). Farmers have increased their income and garden sizes. The farmers are planning and preparing for next season. Families are able to store grain for food security later and for staggered sales to local markets to increase their income. Farmers use income generated from irrigation agriculture to improve living conditions (replacing roofs, flooring, sun-dried bricks are replaced with fired bricks, and they have added doors and windows). Farmers that have not worked with awp are utilizing irrigation agriculture based upon observation and conversations with neighboring communities (the trainings are self-replicating without awp). Awp continues to raise awareness in the united states about sustainable support that empowers families to become food secure. Our slogan "end hunger: grow food" is relevant to concerns within the u.s. And all over the globe. Approximately 840 volunteer hours were contributed in 2020 for the running and operational effort of this program.
