Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The foundation uses contributions to fund research for pediatric cancer drugs, including underwriting a lab at memorial sloan-kettering cancer center, and also financially supports low income families and military families who have children with cancer. It also pursues legislative and regulatory changes that seek to benefit children with cancer and at the same time to raise awareness of issues involving pediatric cancer. In addition, the foundation also donates limited funds to other 501(c)(3)charities not directly related to pediatric cancer causes which assist the foundation in its mission stated above.

The Max Cure Foundation

1. In 2013, the Foundation contributed $37,500.00 to The Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation, $12,728.86 to The Trustees Columbia University, $41,500.00 to Memorial Sloan - Kettering Cancer Center and the sum of $97,713.94 to the families identified in paragraph 3, below. In addition, the Foundation also contributed $ 600 to Philadelphia Foundation, $3,000 to Duke University Medical Center, $500 to Children's Cause for Cancer and $530 to Katy's Courage Corp.2. In 2013, the Foundation made payments to 47 low income and military families battling pediatric cancer in the sum of $97,714 as part of its Roar Beyond Barriers program. These families, whose children are in active cancer treatment, reside in 12 States at 21 Hospitals throughout the country (the Foundation is registered as a 501 (c) (3) in all States requiring such registrations to solicit funds in those States). Since the program was launched in November, 2011, over 78 families have been financially assisted. Such assistance takes the form primarily of issuing to the families monthly gift cards from Target Stores to allow the families to buy necessities such as food and clothing. Medical expenses are otherwise covered for these families through Medicaid or through State or Federal unreimbursed medical cost programs. In addition to the monthly gift cards, on occasion the Foundation assists the families by providing them with monies to pay certain bills in arrears (where there are threatened shutdowns, for example, of utility services) and also, by providing nutritional supplements needed to boost the childs immune system in such circumstances where the family would otherwise not be able to give the child such supplements given financial constraints being confronted by the family. The Roar Beyond Barriers program continues to expand in 2014 so that by year end, it is hoped that the Foundation will have included up to 80 families in the program since its launch, as noted, in November, 2011. 3. In 2013, Foundation formed the Angels Fund as part of its Roar Beyond Barriers program. The purpose of the Angels Fund is to contribute up to $500 towards the funeral expenses of children in the Roar Beyond Barriers program who pass away from the disease. In 2013, the Angels Fund contributed over $6,300 to the funeral costs for Cristian Ramos, age 12, who died from a form of leukemia. The Ramos' signed contracts on the day their son died for in excess of $8,300 for such costs. They had little resources and could not afford to contribute towards the funeral of their son. The father is disabled and does not work. The mother does not speak English and does not work. They have 3 other children. The hospital paid $1,500 from a special fund it maintained for such purposes and another foundation contributed $500. It was based on this experience that the Foundation added The Angels Fund to the Roar Beyond Barriers program. The cemetery told the Foundation that if payment were not made to it with cleared funds, the hearse with Cristian's body would be turned away at the gate! The Foundation made it happen and paid the balance of over $6,300.4. In 2013, Richard Plotkin, a member of the Plotkin family who performs substantial services for the Foundation as Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer, does not receive a salary or any other compensation from the Foundation. In 2013, he donated $353,238.00 to the Foundation for its general unrestricted use. In addition, a substantial amount of costs which benefited the Foundation were paid by Richard for which he was not reimbursed by the Foundation.5. David Plotkin, Chairman of the Foundation, received salary from the Foundation in 2013 of $135,737.00 and health care benefits of $16,763.21. The salary includes the sum of $12,000 annual salary (paid monthly at $1,000/month) and the balance of the salary and of the health benefits which were paid by the Foundation from payments received from Whitehouse & Schapiro of $20,000/month for seven month
