Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 2

Flora brett and chris brett have a family relationship.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11

Once the 990 has been prepared by the outside accounting firm, a draft copy of the return will be sent to the board for their approval. The executive team will then confirm and motion to pass it via email, if outside of a formal board meeting.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

The issue of conflict of interest is raised at interviews, and again when a contract is signed. If there is any cause for concern we will raise it with the staff member immediately. Staff members are required to renew their contracts annually. At that time, we remind them about the importance of the issue.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

It was decided at a board meeting to pay the executive director an amount of $1,500 per month at minimum, after tax. At quarterly board meetings, dependent on the progress and the financial standing of the organization, a quarterly amount is decided and voted on.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

Govering documents, the conflict of interest policy, and the financial statements are made available to the public upon request. Additionally, a copy of the 990 is available on guidestar.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0CAMP LEAD PROGRAM: CAMP LEAD IS AN INTENSIVE ONE WEEK SUMMER DAY CAMP EXPERIENCE FOR STUDENTS IN GRADES 5-8. THE CAMP IS HIGHLY ACADEMIC IN NATURE; HOWEVER, THE MODULES ARE ALSO DESIGNED TO BE FUN, INTERACTIVE, AND SUMMER CAMP APPROPRIATE. WE HELP STUDENTS DEVELOP COMMUNICATION, TEAM BUILDING, SELF-LEADERSHIP, SELF-REGULATION, CREATIVE THINKING, LIFE BALANCE SKILLS, AND MUCH MORE. WE DO THIS BY USING HIGHLY INTERACTIVE ACTIVITIES THAT ARE MEMORABLE AND SET THE STAGE FOR SCHOOL-YEAR SUCCESS. THE CAMP GIVES STUDENTS A COMPETITIVE EDGE AS THEY HEAD BACK TO SCHOOL IN FALL BY CAPTURING THEIR ATTENTION THROUGH THE DEEP LEARNING AND METACOGNITIVE CHALLENGES WE INTEGRATE INTO THE ENGAGING CURRICULUM.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0HIGH SCHOOL TRANSITIONS PROGRAM: THE TRANSITIONS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO SERVE AS A BRIDGE TO ADDRESS THE SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL, AND ACADEMIC CHALLENGES STUDENTS FACE DURING THE IMPORTANT PASSAGE FROM MIDDLE SCHOOL TO HIGH SCHOOL. OUR IN-DEPTH, INTERACTIVE PROGRAM HELPS STUDENTS LEARN HOW TO HANDLE NEW SCHOOL EXPECTATIONS, ESTABLISH THEIR OWN IDENTITIES, AND NAVIGATE INTENSIVE PEER PRESSURE AS THEY MOVE FROM SMALLER MIDDLE SCHOOLS TO LARGER, CENTRALIZED SECONDARY SCHOOLS, WHILE COPING WITH PHYSICAL AND HORMONAL CHANGES INHERENT TO ADOLESCENCE. DURING THE 4 DAY SUMMER SEMINAR AND 2 SCHOOL YEAR FOLLOW UP SESSIONS, STUDENTS WILL DEVELOP SKILLS LIKE SELF-REGULATION, TIME MANAGEMENT, SOCIAL AWARENESS, COMMUNICATION, AND SELF-DISCIPLINE - ALL OF WHICH ARE VITAL PARTS OF SUCCEEDING IN HIGH SCHOOL. STUDENTS WILL ALSO LEARN THE ART OF NETWORKING (INCLUDING HOW TO DRESS FOR SUCCESS, THE IMPORTANCE OF FIRST IMPRESSIONS, AND HOW TO DEVELOP ELEVATOR SPEECHES IN PREPARATION FOR COLLEGE VISITS AND INTERVIEWS) AND HOW TO PLAN FOR LONG-TERM SUCCESS (INCLUDING FORESIGHT AND LONG-TERM GOAL SETTING).

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActyOtherGrp/Desc0LEAD CONFERENCE PROGRAM: OUR LEAD CONFERENCE PROGRAM IS SHORTER TERM AND TYPICALLY HELD IN ONE TO TWO HOUR SESSIONS. WORKING DIRECTLY WITH OUR SCHOOL AND EDUCATION PARTNERS, WE CHOOSE TOPICS FROM OUR STANDARD CURRICULUM THAT ARE PARTICULARLY RELEVANT FOR THE GROUP OF STUDENTS WE INTEND TO SERVE. CONFERENCES OFTEN SERVE LARGER NUMBERS OF PARTICIPANTS AT ONE TIME, RANGING FROM 20-200 STUDENTS IN NUMBER. TOPICS ADDRESSED INCLUDE HOW TO COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY, HOW TO SET AND ACHIEVE SMART GOALS, HOW TO FORM AND PARTICIPATE SUCCESSFULLY IN A GROUP, HOW TO DEVELOP PERSONAL VALUES, AND HOW PERSONAL VALUES IMPACT DECISION-MAKING. ELA ALSO HIGHLIGHTS THE IMPORTANCE OF KEEPING AN OPEN MIND, THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX, EMBRACING CHANGE, AND DEVELOPING AND STICKING TO A PERSONAL CODE OF ETHICS.
