Additional Explanations

Form 990, Part I, Line 1

Beauty bus delivers in-home hair, makeup, nail and facial services free of charge to clients, often at the end of life, whose condition prohibits them from accessing a salon - and serves their caregivers. Beauty bus also creates pop-up salons at hospitals and social service partners, where clients receive complimentary beauty and grooming services in a setting that promotes support and serenity. Beauty bus' bag of beauty program distributes full-sized donated products, customized by age, gender and client need, after each in-home visit, pop-up salon or beauty series to prolong the impact of the beauty bus experience. Beauty bus' oldest client is 101 - our youngest client is 1 - and 25% of our clients are men. The foundation serves men, women and children battling als, cancer, multiple sclerosis, parkinson's disease, spinal cord injuries, strokes, muscular dystrophy and other select neuromuscular and motor neuron diseases - and their hard working caregivers, regardless of race, religion or socioeconomic class. Beauty bus was created in loving memory of melissa marantz nealy who died at the age of 28 from a degenerative neuromuscular disease. The beauty treatments melissa received while she was sick made her feel "human again." beauty bus strives to bring this same dignity to patients and caregivers when they need it most.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The organization has received tax-exempt status from the internal revenue service and california franchise tax board under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and california under revenue and taxation code section 23701(d), respectively. Since the organization is exempt from federal and state income tax liability, no provision is made for current or deferred income taxes. The organization uses the same accounting methods for tax and financial reporting. Management has considered its tax positions and believes that all of the positions taken in its federal and state exempt organization returns are more likely than not to be sustained upon examination. The organization's returns are subject to examination by federal and state taxing authorities, generally for three years and four years, respectively, after they are filed.
